This is interesting. If politicians don't care about re-election, where does that leave "We the People"? This is from Internet pundit Andy McCarthy:

Today's Democrats are controlled by the radical Left, and it is more important to them to execute the permanent transformation of American society than it is to win the upcoming election cycles. They have already factored in losing in November — even losing big. For them, winning big now outweighs that. I think they're right.

I hear Republicans getting giddy over the fact that "reconciliation," if it comes to that, is a huge political loser. That's the wrong way to look at it. The Democratic leadership has already internalized the inevitablility of taking its political lumps. That makes reconciliation truly scary. Since the Dems know they will have to ram this monstrosity through, they figure it might as well be as monstrous as they can get wavering Democrats to go along with. Clipping the leadership's statist ambitions in order to peel off a few Republicans is not going to work. I'm glad Republicans have held firm, but let's not be under any illusions about what that means. In the Democrat leadership, we are not dealing with conventional politicians for whom the goal of being reelected is paramount and will rein in their radicalism. They want socialized medicine and all it entails about government control even more than they want to win elections. After all, if the party of government transforms the relationship between the citizen and the state, its power over our lives will be vast even in those cycles when it is not in the majority. This is about power, and there is more to power than winning elections, especially if you've calculated that your opposition does not have the gumption to dismantle your ballooning welfare state.

Get your pitchforks and torches ready, it's getting closer to the time when we might have to storm the castle, IMHO...

This has been a part of their plan for quite a while. It's just now coming to a crucial fork in the road where some are going
to have to "take one for the party" , even if it means loosing. I believe that is why they voted themselves a VERY generous
retirement package with VERY generous LIFETIME benefits package that we would never be entitled to in the real working
world. And all of this after only ONE TERM! How stupid are we for not calling them out on that when Ted Kennedy foisted this upon the American people 25 or so years ago. NO ELECTED OFFICIAL SHOULD EVER RETIRE AND RECEIVE BENEFITS FROM AN ELECTED POSITION IN AMERICAN POLITICS. PERIOD!!! At this point, they don't care if some of them bite the dirt along the way as long as they can radically change American politics and the American way of life for you and me. It's all about power and control. If you read, actually read the proposed Health Care Bill and Cap and Trade you will see that
they are more about giving the government more control over our lives and a new form of taxation for all of us. They're
both smoke screens for the true agenda of collecting more money through taxation. And they've already begun brain
washing the kids in school into believing that global warming is a condition caused by us and it has to be fixed by us and
that means paying more taxes to "solve the problem". If they hear this from the time they're 6-7 years old then by the time they start paying taxes they really won't mind because they've been hearing that most of their lives at that point and
will have no reason to contest the idea. Think about it!
