what should we do to poachers?

Ask our founding fathers how they would feel about all this... I'm sure they applied for permits and had tags when they hunted. There is a fine line.

So the poor guy that's been out of work as he was fired 6 months ago when the local factory closed, is out shooting at a deer with some of the last bullets he has attempting to keep 2 children and wife fed. Perhaps it's 2 weeks before season, but this deer is nice and big and he can use every last piece of the meat. We take his rifle and slap him with a fine and imprison him? Taking away what little self reliance he has and creating a situation in which others will go hungry...

Since when did we all get so comfortable with asking permission to live freely?

The laws in some areas were intended to protect the wildlife. In others they were designed and implemented to entrap and ensnare the hunters. I live in MA so I can relate. One law is in contradiction to another while it supports yet another in the process of superseding the other 2.

In California I'd have to say the laws are in place to do the latter... Generate revenue to feed the fat bloated government...

SC has one of the biggest DNR Enforcement Departments in the Nation considering area of State verses number of Officers. Bloated, that's being kind. We now have to buy Saltwater Licenses to fish in the ocean. I'm talking about at the beach with a serf pole. God only knows whats next. Steel shot when you shoot a perp? God forbid you put lead in the environment.

That's one hell of an imagination you have.

Game & Fish Law Enforcements need to work hard catching poachers, man.. They are doing nothing at work!

Poachers are taking advantage to kill them and they are hungry, no money from job!

Like in New Orleans Someone getting food should not be considered stealing, that was survival. I have no problem with that. I knew people that will not hunt legal, never, they don't need the food, they just brake the law. I know someone that owns 500 acres and night hunts his property, I asked him why he did it and he said that it took too long to hunt Deer in the day light.

we can beat the nuge thing to death and it already has been bottom line there is his only mistake was to rely on his production staff to do their job and get the necessary permits prior to the film shoot....

You obviously have no understanding of economic systems.

BTW - socialism is not "damn, we got us a black president..." despite Faux News.

Correct. Socialism is taking a portion of what I and others have worked hard for, and giving it to others, forcibly or under duress. The government mandates it shall be done under the statement "It's for the common good" or more succinctly, "So we are all equal". It requires the buy in from all parties and also requires over sight and monitoring. As with any other economic system, it's wrought with abuse and is prone to greed. Both by-products of free will. A trait we humans have, foster, and quite enjoy.

Charity is when "I" (or a group of I's) feel the need or have the desire to assist others knowing that when they have the means or perhaps when they are able to they will by their labor or other means, assist me if I were to need assistance. Or perhaps they pay it forward to others that may need assistance. No government mandate and no regulations needed. It's how things in this country were done before government got to big and overpowering. Bartering system. It kept government in check and allowed free commerce to flourish.

Ask the Soviets how well a socialist and communist system worked for them. My friend Mr. Litvak (from Russia) and I had a long bone chilling discussion of how the system really benefits no one...

Go back to eating the nice green grass and drink plenty of Kool-Aid... Bahhhh...

An Mistake is An Mistake, But Ignorance is no Excuse for the Law. If that was me. ??? I would of been Arrested and, Lost My Weaon,Truck ATV. I guess if you have $$ you can Afford your way Out. But, There are more pressing Issues to worry about these Days. I see that some regaurd this as an Boring Post And, Maybe so. But, this is an Forum and, Posting is what we do no matter if its good or, bad it is new Information for all to read. I heard nothing about ths Incident with Uncle Ted Until now So I, appreciate the Information.

I don't hunt anymore. But I find it disturbing that society feels it has the right to say what and when I (or anyone) can hunt. A hundred years ago I'm sure the majority of people would have found the idea not just disturbing, but ludicrous. Ever hear the story of Robin Hood?

I realize there are conservational concerns. I'm not advocating killing off endangered species. But what if I wanted to quit my job, go somewhere and live off the land? Next to impossible to do legally today imo.

There's a difference between killing for sport and killing to subsist. The law doesn't appear to recognize the difference, and that lack of common sense hurts us all.

Controlled hunts benefit game of all types. Poaching, on the other hand, can damage game populations and even bring some populations to extinction. Some either don't understand or simply don't care about the damage they are doing. I kind of like those states with laws making any property and equipment in your possession (cars, guns, planes, etc.) when caught poaching subject to confiscation by the state and becomes state property upon being found guilty.

Yup... I can imagine lots of things... One of my creative traits...

Actually.... I know of a guy in that boat, lives in the deep country by necessity not choice, old bet up trailer, wreck of a car, feeds the family by hunting, and I will leave it at that.....
