Time for another poll and this one was a suggestion by a member. Let's see what the most popular ammo manufacturer is here. As always if you don't see yours on the list just post it to the thread and I'll get it added.

Cor-bon

Their ballistics are excellent and my guns eat 'em up and spit 'em out without complaint.

They cost a fortune, but when you are shopping JHPs that may save your life, you have to ask yourself, "what's your life worth?"

I shoot winchester PDX1 throw my M&P Pro 40 and they do quit well @ around 21 to 23 bucks a box up this way . I us Remminton sluggers in my 870 tac. and they preform pretty go @ 100 yrd.. But in my long guns I havn't found anything yet that tickles my fanncy . Got a collection of Horndy supermatic to try out when the weather up here turns better !

Winchester SXT Ranger rounds are the best JHP rounds currently available, if you buy them online they are a lot cheaper than the Hydra Shocks or Critical Defense rounds.

Wow, guess I'm the only fan of Nosler bullets on this poll. Very accurate for varmints and punching holes in paper but I shy away from their Ballistic tips for large game after a couple instances of bullets coming apart when hitting bone. Animals were anchored no problem but there was a lot of unnecessary meat damage. Luckily, I still have an adequate supply of the older Nosler Partition bullets which are second-to-none for reloading big game cartridges.

As far as manufactured ammo in most handgun calibers and bullet weights, I'd probably say Federal. That's what I use in my EDC and what my military and federal officer buds tell me is their department-issue brand.

Most of my store bought ammo is for self defense and I've found that Federal's Hydra Shock line is usually a reliable feeder and accurate, so I voted Federal. I do use some Winchester (.32ACP), Hornaday (.357 Mag) and CorBon (.45ACP short barrels) self defense loads, but most of my guns end up with Hydra Shocks or Nyclads (.38 Special) in them.

That's the only money they get from me, though. As a reloader, I LOVE Federal's brass- which they have stopped selling in bulk:mad:. Their primers, on the other hand, are WAYYYY too sensitive for me to use. You know that something's up when every primer tool and press I own (2 progressives, 2 single stage and 2 hand tools) specifically says that Federal primers are not to be used with that particular piece of reloading equipment. I prefer Remington primers but will use Winchester if they are not available.

Here's some really interesting reading about self defense ammo.

Magic bullets debunked.

Favorite ammo to do what?

I have different ammo for each use.

Plinking, hunting, target, and self defense ammo.

added - I didn't know Cheaper Than Dirt made their own ammo.

No Buffalo Bore or Double Tap, but I voted anyway.

Speer, Cor-bon, Winchester and Fiocchi make some nice defensive rounds.

What, no love for HPR Ammo, sold by Scottsdale Ammo? I ordered a bunch of .40 S&W from them earlier. They don't have hollow points in that caliber yet (only 10 and 9 mm), but their ball TMJ is FINE!

For self defense I also have Winchester PDX1.
