The above story reminded me of some of my own recent difficulty carrying.
I was not shot, but I broke a strong side wrist in 2008, had surgery, and screws and plates inserted. Last year one of my tendons that had been rubbing on one of the screws, parted and I lost control of the last digit of the thumb. Like I was in the thumbs up mode all the time.
I saw two doctors before I had further surgery this past September 29, to remove the screws and braces from 2008. I also had Surgery to sew the thumb straight. (Both Doctors said they could try to take a tendon from another finger, but they said I had a low chance of success, I was used to a bum thumb by now and by making it straight, I could pick stuff up) I am still not 100 % recovered, but I do have much better wrist articulation than before and the thumb is 90% healed.
During recovery I carried a LC9s Pro in a ambidextrous pocket holster on the weak side, and will likely do that for another week. I am happy that I had that option available.
