I just bought my first gun. i live in Alabama. I want to apply for my ccw this week when i am home. i have a unpaid traffic fine in Mississippi. When i apply for my ccw will i be arrested for the unpaid fine in another state, or will this not be checked? I have a TWIC,and a Security passport per regulation to enter plants i work in. any answers will be appreciated much.

Alabama is interesting in that the process is county by county. It is up to the Sheriff of the county to issue or not. I live in Pike County and we have a very good pro 2nd Amendment Sheriff so 25.00 and a 3 day background check is all it takes and then renewal is just show up each year pay 20.00 and you're done for another year.

In Virginia it's a 5 year permit. You fill out the application at the courthouse, get finger printed and background check done at the police station then it's a 45 day max wait for approval. I got mine in less than a month. Oh, and the application cost is $50 then $50 renewal every 5 years. You also have to take a CCW class first.

there is a time issue with the ticket my drivers license is suspended for 90 days if i pay the ticket b4 the 90 is up it will add 6 months to the suspension. so i was told by a dot rep to pay the ticket the day of or day after i get my license back to keep from adding more time. i travel out of state to wrk and do not want another ticket or worse for having a gun in my car.

Become a law abiding citizen and you wouldn't have such problems, would you? Is there some reason you did not pay the ticket on time?

Since this is a requirement for the license:
No person who is not deemed suitable or proper by the Sheriff’s Office

sounds to me like you are completely at the mercy of the Sheriff. Also:

Could I be arrested or prosecuted if I give any false information in order to obtain a pistol license?

Yes. You may be arrested and prosecuted under Alabama State Code Title 13A-11-70 thru 84.

So, go ahead and lie about it while you're at it and add to your troubles.

if i pay the ticket b4 the 90 is up it will add 6 months to the suspension.

Are you serious? Why would they add 6 months to your suspension for paying the ticket within 90 days?? Something doesn't make sense, so far Mississippi is an ass backwards state.

why was it suspended initially? tell me you are not driving now on a suspended license? and with your gun?

your entire post is just troubling.

btw... you would only be arrested when you apply for your ccw if you have outstanding warrant i believe.

is that the case?

Alabama is may issue and the sheriff of each county sets the rules and admins the procedure. In Baldwin county
you submit application to any sheriff's office with $30 fee and if no problem with background check or references you will receive permit in about a week..traffic violations should have no effect unless a prior gun violation shows up. You mention having a TWIC and talking to a DOT rep..Are you a Truck driver with a CDL? If so, and engaged in interstate transportation (crossing state lines) it is against Federal Regulations to carry a firearm in the vehicle, reguardless of a carry permit.

Absolutely completely 100% FALSE INFORMATION

Seriously, we have enough gun regulations that really do exist...please stop spreading B.S. regulations that don't exist.

This responds to your letter regarding the applicability of the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 CFR Parts 171- 180) to the transportation of a loaded personal firearm lawfully carried by a commercial motor vehicle operator while in the performance of his or her duties. Specifically, you ask whether the transportation ofbsuch a firearm is prohibited by the HMR under the “forbidden explosives” clause in § 173.54(f).

The answer to your question is no. Unless otherwise specified in § 173.54(f), a personal loaded or unloaded firearm lawfully carried by a commercial motor vehicle operator is not considered in commerce and therefore not subject to the HMR. Under this scenario, a commercial motor vehicle operator who carries a personal firearm while in the performance of his or her duties is subject to local or State jurisdiction regarding such matters. This response has been coordinated with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

You'll only be arrested if there is a warrant out for you. A bench warrant for failure to appear in a traffic court would qualify so you may want to get that taken care of first.

I was dumb as a kid and ended up getting 1 to many tickets so my license was suspended but like most I have a family and bills to take care of. I have not received a ticket of any kind in the last 5 years. Each time I get close to my suspension being over some stupid thing happens (roadblock, routine stop, brake light ect.) and I get a ticket for driving while suspended when I talked to al. Dot I was advised to not pay the last ticket until my suspension is up bc if paid while still suspended it will add 6 months to the suspension. With that being said I wrk out of state (construction) and feel need to carry a gun while I travel but do not want to get a ticket or worse if pulled over. Therefore I wish to properly get my ccw. But I am also not wanting the bech warrant in miss. To show up and have to pay it bc that will prolong my suspension. Since I have now explained myself to those who would judge me I do not carry while I drive and I only drive when necessary.

Last time I checked a traffic ticket is not a felony nor a disqualifying misdemeanor unless multiple dui's so you should be alright provided your Sheriff is not an a-hole

You drive on a suspended license... and you want to carry a firearm, good luck to you.

That was my thinking.... can't afford to pay the traffic fines, but can afford to pay for a CCW license? In addition, if he listed his driver's license on an employment application while it was suspended, that would be falsifying the application.

But, to each his own...

Some day after getting caught enough times driving on a suspended license I would think they would revoke the license and/or incarcerate the person.

Some people these days I tell you what.

Surely your not driving a company vehicle because they would have run an MVR before allowing that. I deal with that type thing with our drivers at work here in AL but I've never come across anything like waiting to get your license back before paying an outstanding ticket.

Definitely does not pass any kind of common sense check. Ok, so I don't pay the fine and driver's license is suspended for 90 days. Then what? Everything just goes away, license is reinstated like nothing happened?!? Or you pay the fine and get a 6 months suspension for it?

Someone is full of crap on that one.

what is involed in getting CCW

First is the cost, then class, then finger prints, then a crazy amount of time waiting and wondering if you will get it. Second, brush up on all the Laws and responsibility you have just taken on. And 3rd...dont think Law enforcement will treat you as if you have done everything correctly, you are now armed and considered a threat.
