Triggered from a different thread. What would really happen if the fed started collecting guns or zombie asteroids attack. A shtf scenario. I reckon the majority of us would sit at home and wait with our families and die alone if needed. Not much of a plan.

What is a militia? Growing up, I remember this being a bad word on the news and in school for current day. Obviously a different story during the revolution. Is a militia the answer? How do you find or join a militia? A militia isn't necessaryily bad I suppose. I'm assuming it isn't illegal unless there is illegal activity involved.

Is a gun club or range a modern day militia? I still don't think a gun club is a safe plan. Seems like the first place a government would converge.

Remember, internet won't work, neither will phones. What would you do if shtf for real? Do you and your gun buddies have a plan. Is that really going far enough?

Most states actually have a state militia that is completely separate from the National Guard check the listing for your state

The founding fathers provided the second amendment in the shadow of the revolutionary war. They made sure (they thought) that we would always be guaranteed the right to bear arms, even if it is against our own government, but they didn't give us any guidance on how to protect ourselves in the case of a tyrannical government. I think most of them thought the system they had set up would last a long time. And it did. But it's fading fast.

The "militia", at that time was a group of all men, usually under the age of 40 who could bear arms. Some stated even specified the minimum number of firearms each man must have to protect his family, his state, and his country. NOT having those arms could result in penalties and most certainly resulted in being branded a coward.

An "army" was disallowed in the constitution except in war, and then for only two years unless extended by vote. Most of the founding Fathers except for Jay, Hamilton, Madison and Adams believed that a standing army was detrimental to the country. Those four believed in the Obama type heavy handed government and three of them wrote about it in the Federalist Papers.

So the founding fathers gave us the tools, but not the plan. I guess they thought if it ever came to fighting the government they had worked so hard to set up correctly, we'd have to figure it out on our own like they did.

If our government ever killed all phone and internet connections it would be hard to react if not pre-planned!

Zombies attack... I'll gather my chit and haul @ss with my family to the "safe house". Hopefully I get out in time, if I deem it too late for evac... we're staying put, and mounting whatever defense we can(which is primarily to stay low & quiet).

As far as the gov't coming for my guns... hopefully I'm long gone before they knock on my door.

Not so sure where to go but I can tell you for certain if someone comes to my house with ideas about "moving me somewhere" like they did to jews in germany, someone will go to hell before I go to heaven. I sure as hell will not be a sheep. As for confiscation of my guns--ya mean the ones that got stolen?

Same as the National Guard, but completely controlled by the State, not the Army/Federal Gov't. As it's been said, many states still have a Militia, the authorized ones can also take the place of activated National Guard units.

A gun club or a range is exactly that. Nothing to do with a Militia

If I had known about the Washington State Guard when I moved up here in 1981, I would have enlisted in it. Now at 68 yrs, I'm too old.

I would like to see some of the "internet commandos" join their authorized State Militias, instead of just running their mouths.
