Hey Guys,

I am fairly new to this site, and I must say it is very informative and interesting. I am going to be applying for my LTC in Massachusetts and was just wondering what a good reason was to put on the application. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Thanks,
Capo

Lexington and Concord

Concord is said to be a GREEN town
meaning they issue LTC-ALP ( concealed carry license ) without complication
Link Removed

Don't have any info from Lexington gun owners, but
Lexington had a 34% drop in licensed owners, so it might be a RED town ( difficult to get LTC-ALP )
Lexington, MA. Police Dept.

Link Removed , Danvers doesn't ask for any letters according to the Police site
not sure if they issue LTC-ALP or not

How many license in your town ? see

Thanks!

Thanks guys for your help. Those links were useful, thank you for posting them. I am not sure how Danvers is at issuing Class A LTCs. I have heard places that they will only issue a class B LTC to a first time applicant (which I am). We shall see what happens. Whats the worst they can tell me, No? Either way, a class b is better than nothing for now.

A Class-B is practically useless

At the interview, IF, the police Licensing Officer (LO) tells you all they issue is Class-B , try to convince him/her that a Class-B is not enough, You need a minimum of a Class-A
Tell him/her that you want to do ISPA and other COMPETITION Matches and Hi-Cap is required

Only thing you can do with a Class-B is, purchase, borrow, possess handguns that holds 10 or less in the magazine
You can NOT carry it concealed outside your home (or place of business)
You can NOT carry LOADED OUTSIDE your home or place of business
( I heard ) The only time you should have a weapon with a Class-B outside your home is when transporting TO A FIREARM REPAIR shop or dealer

With a Class-A , even if restricted, at least you can buy, sell, possess Hi-Cap firearms, you can carry LOADED while Target&Hunting or Sporting

Try checking/visiting a Gun Club/Range in your area to find out the process and whats the typical issue of LTC is for resident of your city/town .

You can also contact Link Removed to see if they have info on your town of residence

Thank you for the information. I just filled out the application and check CLASS A. You are right in saying that even if it is restricted its better than a class b. Thank you very much for your help. I will let you know how it goes. I am going to tell them about the competition shooting and see what they say. I will give an update. Thanks

The "Class B" license sounds a lot like what we're allowed to do here in PRHI. IF we are issued a permit to acquire a handgun then we're allowed to have it in specific places and loaded only under certain conditions.

Here's my suggestion. Tear up that permission slip you're filling out and move north to either NH or VT, both of which are among America's most gun friendly states. Yes, even with an unrestricted Class A license from PRMA, you can only purchase weapons that are on the AG's list of weapons "approved" to be sold there. Furthermore, assault weapons are banned there. No such restrictions exist in NH and VT.

Not sure where capo2186 travels/works daily, but

From the closest point in Vermont to Danvers, MA is 108 Miles, 2 Hrs 15 Minutes on a clear day in traffic, between 7 and 9 AM it probably takes ~3 hours to drive..

From Vermont to Quincy (close to my school) same distance, but maybe 3 and a ~half hour in the AM traffic. No student is gonna do that 5 days per week , feel me ?

From Salem, NH (closest NH point) to Quincy, MA is 43 miles, but AM traffic would make that trip last about ~90 Minutes.

Traffic is a BIG Factor to working/schooling in Mass while living in NH/VT

It is my dream to one day live in NH. Nothing better than Live free or Die. I just need to save more money and actually find someplace up there where the commute to Boston isn't that bad. NH's gun laws are awesome. I submitted my application this morning, I will let you guys know what they say. I'm expecting issues and alot of road blocks to have to try to go through.

Why even bother commuting to Boston? Just spend all your time in NH. Trust me, you won't regret it.

update

Just giving you guys an update. I head back from the firearms LEO and he told me he will only issue me a FID card because I have no training or experience. I told him I already have an FID card and have had training since I was 12 years old. I have taken three classes over the years and shoot regularly. I have also been a firearm owner since age 18 (when I was able to purchase one). I am a gun club member where I shoot. I feel like I am constantly running into road blocks in my pursuit to obtaining what I want. I am hoping at the very least I get a restricted class a ltc. I will not give up on this. Does anyone have any suggestions, besides move to NH, because that right now isn’t do-able. In a few years though it will be, and I defiantly will be moving there. Any help you guys could provide will be appreciative. I really don't know what to do. Thanks guys!

Since you've said to suggest anything besides moving, my hands (or should I say, my tongue) are tied. Just make the best of an otherwise undesirbable situation. Remember, Class A licenses in PRMA are may issue, so no matter how much training or experience you have, it may not matter to the issuing authority there.

Have you taken the required Basic Pistol course ? (required by MGL)
A Hunters Education Certificate isn't enough for handguns (although SOME towns will accept it )

DO NOT ACCEPT a FID .
Are you over 21 ? (required for handguns)
And make sure you tell the bastard LO (license officer) that you need to do ISPA and other competition shooting , HANDGUN SPEED SHOOTING.

To MOVE or NOT to move :
If you work in Mass, just rent an apt/move to aLink Removed close to your job
because if you move to NH, you will still need a Mass LTC to carry in Massachusetts, altho LTC-ALP is guaranteed to non-resident, the cost is $100 PER YEAR

If you don't care about carrying concealed in Mass and you work near N.H. you can get 1 bedroom for about $500-$700 in Salem, NH ... $800-$100 for 2-bedrooms.

DO NOT ACCEPT A FID.

Theres two firearms lawyer on here
, Cross-X and Scrivenger, talk to them, it may cost you ~$500 to process but you're almost guaranteed a LTC-A ( may still be restricted depending on Danvers policy )

N.H. is nice, I lived there as a child many years ago.

Again, DO NOT ACCEPT A FID.

I am 22. I have taken basic rifle, hunters education, and a pistol course. I did tell him I wanted to do competitions and he said "all you need is a FID you just need help transporting". I am waiting to hear back from him. Thank you guys so much for your help. Like I said, even if given a restricted card, I would still be very happy. I am not expecting gold to come out of this, I just wish he would work with me a little bit more. I am not being unreasonable in my opinion. I just am not to sure where else to turn for help. Thank you guys so much for all your help.

I am surprised they are being so tough though. I really am!

... he said "all you need is a FID you just need help transporting". ....!

So this a--hole chief expect every-time you want to shoot, you MUST go find someone with a Class-A or Class-B LTC to escort you to the range ?
What a pri*k s/he is

DO NOT ACCEPT A FID

That LEO is full of isht , if you get a FID, you are limited. Link Removed only, or..

With an FID if you want to purchase a Rifle/Shotgun, you needLink Removed
[/B] you have to get a Permit to Purchase for each rifle/shotguns you want to buy, Permit to Purchase are rarely granted, and cost $100 and only valid for 10 days.

Talk to either Cross-X , jcohen or Scrivenger from the link I posted earlier.

well I just found out I have been breaking the law because I only have a FID card and I purchased a shotgun years ago when I was able to do so. So this means I am unable to go to the range and shoot because its not against the law. WONDERFUL! So much for the hunting season this year. This cop is probably going to nab me on that because I told him I bought my first gun at age 18 to prove that I this is not my first time owning a gun or using one. So, right there he is probably going to nab me and deny me. This really Sucks. The LEO takes his sweet time getting back to me to. I want to get this over with lol

How about Ted Kennedy & John Kerry... as good a reason as I can think of on short notice...
