I recently bough a GLOCK 42 for personal protection . PLEASE lets NOT go into 380 caliber and the pluses and minuses of the caliber . The reason I went with this fire arm was SIZE and REPUTATION having shot Glocks for years and I have been shooting for almost 60 years and do research a gun before buying I wanted something SMALL , no external safety and easy to conceal , this was my decision . HOW ABOUT A CONCESSION ! ! ! !

With the amount of holsters I have made for the glock 42, it must be a damn good gun.

My wife and I both have a Glock 42. Zero negatives, definitely a keeper.

It is like the travel size toothpaste and toothbrush. It works, in a limited way, but you can not wait to put the luggage away and use the master bathroom one again. When the threats I see daily, hourly, are more than the tools I carry, I know something is not going to be adequate if tested.

I bet 2 bucks, this couple figured some small protection device was adequate for the job.

Someone comes after me, I am going to turn loose the gates of hell on them.

This happened about 5 miles down the road from me. My Dad and Mom live about 3 miles or so from this couple's house, and their car was found less than a mile from where my sister lives. You want to talk about way too close for comfort?!? My heart and prayers go out to their family. But unfortunately the county we live in will not use the death penalty in any murder case unless it involves a police officer or government official. How do I know this? On 07Dec85, my Wife's Dad was shot and killed by a shoplifter over a $3 bottle of deer lure. He was the security chief at a department store that used to be here. He was killed, but the girl who was there as a witness, was shot in the face and survived...

Matt

Not sure why you are using this tragedy to make a point that doesn't have anything to do with it. Do you know for a fact that the victims were armed with a .380 pistol and were unable to stop the threat? Your post does not make any sense whatsoever.

As for the Glock 42, my main complaint is that it isn't in 9mm.

I have one that I bought in September. I haven't shot it very much, only about 250 rounds, but so far, so good. I like it a lot. It's extremely easy to conceal and light and easy to carry. It's a great choice for carry in hot weather. It conceals very well in a front jacket pocket or in a small cargo type pocket as found on some shorts. I also have a Recluse front jeans pocket holster for it (leather), but it usually rides in a DeSantis Nemesis (synthetic). The Nemesis is more "squared off" and works well in small cargo pockets.

Right now, I'm working up a set of hand loads for it. Unfortunately, it will be at least a couple more months before the weather is nice enough here where I live for me to be able to concentrate for a couple of hours at a shooting bench working with my chronograph. But I have about 17 loads to send across my chronograph.
My view right now is that it looks to be definitely PART of the answer for my concealed carry needs. The other part of the answer is my G26. The two of them form what looks to be a near ideal ccw battery for my needs. It's a solid plus that they both use the same manual of arms and are very similar down to the caliber. Either one will make the same sized hole.

So far, the only slight downside is that I don't shoot it as well as my G26. I tend to have minor issues with handguns with "thin" grips and lean toward handguns with fuller grips as my preference.
But bottom-line: I'm thinking that I'm very happy with my ccw equipment.

Small guns are a compromise ether in capacity or caliber. Some want a small gun as a backup or something that is easily concealed. .380 is not by any means considered a man stopper but it's better than a rock. When I was in my early 20's a .380 saved me from an attempted carjacking. It wasn't the best caliber to have but at the time it was all I could afford and it did its job. When I revisit that day in my past I shudder to think what could have happened if I wasn't armed because I was out numbered 2 to 1. I am middle age now and can afford to better arm myself with more suitable calibers. If I were planning to be in a gun fight I would carry an AR-15 and have several buddies with me armed with AR's as well.

I've had mine for awhile and I like it, it's finicky with ammo, seems to run better with a hotter load. I usually carry this gun as a secondary backup. It's great if I need deep concealment. Like everything else you must be comfortable with it and must be able to practice with it.

My daughter has one, and I have 2 of them. All have been flawless with assorted brands of ammo.
I keep mine in either a Remora or a Black Hawk pocket holster. This is a back up to my back up...lol
I have about 300 rounds through one of mine and the other has about 600 through it.
I would highly recommend this as a back up carry weapon.

As always, stay safe.

Hey McClure, I see that you're up in Rocky Mount, man I spent a lot of time there in the 70's, I grew up in Goldsboro N.C. and this so bring back some long memory.

I'm not a Glock fan but, they are great weapons and I would imagine that 42 is very controllable. I'd say it's as good a choice as any.

Is the slide easier to rack back that the ruger lcp. I've seen older people and small women really have an issue lcp.

First round fired is Hornady Critical Defense for shock value (slow them down), second and third rounds are Sig 100 gr fmj flat nose. No handgun is considered a man stopper, however, two in the chest and one in the head and the bad guy will never know the difference between the 380 and a 45.

Hornady Critical Defense performed poorly in ShootingTheBull's 380 Ammo Quest for a micro pistol round. Why are you loading your magazine with different rounds anyway? Is your first shot not intended to try to stop the attacker? You should always use the ammo that you think performs best overall. If you think that FN-FMJ is the best round, then why not use it all the way? Take a look at the Link Removed (also available from Underwood):
