What do you guys think?

Thank God I'm alive!
When I think of this the whole Ground Zero mosque/community center incident comes to mind. Your thoughts?

I would strongly suggest they consult with Giffords before doing something like this. Obviously it's their choice, and so long as it's legal, they can do it. But it does seem pretty insensitive. If she owns a Glock, like they say, and if she is an advocate for gun rights (I don't know her track record), it would be an even more successful promo with her blessing. Then again, she is a member of the opposing party. I don't know...bottom line? Yeah, it's a little too soon, and a little bit rude.

:pleasantry:It does seem a bit insensitive, but if I had the chance for something like this, I would purchase a raffle ticket without guilt. I think the Democrats are making too much of this issue.

What a load of crap!

If they had auctioned off a Colt 1911, would it have possibly been a veiled reference to Jack Ruby, who used a Colt Cobra Revolver to assassinate Lee Harvey Oswald?

IT WAS NOT EVEN THE SAME MODEL of Glock used to shoot the congresswoman.

Sheesh.

Islam is not protected under the 1st or any other Amendments or Constitutional Rights. I would consider a trade however. Let us build a BBQ stand in Mecca, a Pentacostal church in Mecca, a Lesbian Gay Transgendered Bisexual night club in Mecca...hows that working for ya?

I've had to bring up this comparison to a few of my semi-anti-gun acquaintances. It has calmed most of them down. (Well, all but the ones who were going to be against it no matter what the circumstances.) Also explaining Arizona's more relaxed atmosphere with guns helped. (Oregon can be pretty relaxed, but most of my acquaintances are Portland residents, so no experience with more rural attitudes. I went to college in rural Arizona, though, and got used to seeing "six shooters on the hip" at the 7-11.)

An AR-15 may have been a better choice - both to prevent any possibility of (incorrect) claims of "It's the same gun!" and just to pull in more money.

I don't think it's the model of gun that's as much the issue as just doing a raffle in her district. To me, it would be like raffling an Alaska hunting trip when the mayor had been eaten by grizzly two months earlier, or this lady at our local farmer's market who sells candles to benefit burn victims. It's just kinda...thoughtless. And just too soon.

Hell, No. There are over 3500 reasons not to allow this mosque to be built on such hollowed ground. By allowing it. the enemy will have counted coupe on America. That will be yet another sad day in this country. Stand up and demand it not be allowed.

Nothing that some nice refined middle-eastern oil and a match won't cure.
Have a pig roast on it.

I understand it is their right to build it where they own the property, but it is a sensitive issue to me. My thoughts probably belong in the political or religion section.
