They just changed the law in our state (new york) from a 10 round mag.. to a 7 round....can i still use my 10 round mag on my xd9 or do i have to buy a 7 round
i have had this xd for two years. This is Bull____!!!

According to the new law, you keep the ten rounders, can't buy any more of them, and can't load them with more than 7 rounds.
Smart, huh...?

Id suggest keeping them as they are grandfathered in.... but purchase some 7 rounders for carry... keep one in the pipe and 7 in the magazines... this way you won't run into problems with them saying you had more then 7 rounds, it'd be physically impossible.... Might I suggest Texas?? :)

If you can pull the magazine floorplate put a small block of plastic inside so the mag can only accept 7 rounds. Only needs to be a little better than a 3/4" in high in a ten round mag... Similar to a plug for a shotgun. You can always take it out if you need to or when you move to another state...

Do we know NY accepts this?

The law in new York specifies any magazine that can be readily restored or converted to higher capacity is banned. Don't try this, your allowed to keep your 10's as long as you don't load more than 7.

That doesn't make sense. What do you think the magazine manufacturers are going to do? The are going to put a block in the magazine. Might be attached to the follower or the floorplate but that is how they'll do it. Plus what is the difference if you load seven in a ten round mag that can still take the other three by just inserting them? Enlighten me please?

As I understand it you have a year to comply.. Hope to get the ruling overturned before then. If 7 round magazines are available, feel free to buy them if you can. As for the ten round magazines, do you WANT to give them up? I suggest keeping them under lock and key. If you like "The Three Musketeers" that Disney put out in 1993, check out what's happening at 1hr 19 minutes into the movie.

I know but I think I might stand a better chance in court with a grandfathered blocked mag than having some overzealous LEO try to slide in a couple of extra rounds. Either way you're screwed... Plus they wouldn't know it was blocked unless they tried putting in an extra round or two...

the one year is to get rid of previously grandfathered high caps, now it will be a felony to have mags over 10, and a misdemeanor to load more than 7

I agree.

From what I've read so far, the 10 round mags already in your possession are legal to retain, but you cannot put more than 7 rounds in them. Of course, I am not sure how the state of New York can expect to enforce such BS. I mean, what are they gonna do? Have you record yourself loading your magazines on video prior to each trip to the range and then send it in to the local police department for confirmation that you loaded your magazines in accordance with the new law?

I also doubt that any of the gun manufacturers is going to start making seven round magazines for their guns, so it is likely that you'll be relegated to relying upon what you have already unless the situation changes significantly. I hope that you stocked up. I also wonder how they'll determine what ten-rounders were manufactured prior to this date since there is no Federal law stating that all ten round magazines made after the passage of the NY AWB must be marked accordingly. (Note: I am not suggesting that anyone in NY do anything illegal like obtain a bunch of ten-round magazines from out of state since they will never be required by Federal law to be marked like the full-capacity magazines were marked during the 94 AWB- it's only a state law in NY so there'll be no such requirements imposed on out of state magazine manufacturers regarding the larger than 7 round capacity magazines that they make)

I feel horrible for the law-abiding gun-owners in NY state. Here's hoping this farce of a law is found unconstitutional ASAP- the findings of Heller v DC (banning an entire class of weapons in common usage by the public is unconstitutional) say that such is the case.

From my query on another thread, I asked how fast can you change out a mag in what ever platform you are shooting. The common time was about 3 seconds. Gee, again knee jerk reaction, Liberal politicians think that writing another Law will stop the individual. Knowing full well it won't. But putting it out there saying "We Care" and "We will react" makes it seem that they do.
So what do the Law abiding citizens gain by all this? More regulations while those that do not comply with Laws have no regulations to abide by. Strange how the Libs think. Kinda makes you wonder who funds them.
