I know everyone makes mistakes in life. I know I have. But what is going on with people now days? Teens and adults are way out of control. Everyone wants to be noticed for some "over-the-top" act, just to get attention. And most times it's negative attention.
Why do we spend more money on fighting crime, then we do on building businesses and factories? Why are we building more restaurants and hotels, when most of us can't afford to enjoy these things? Why do we build more medical clinics, when we can't afford medical insurance to visit them when we're sick? You ever notice how nice the buildings are of an insurance company, medical office, or hospital? I guess we know who's making all the money?
Why are we still fighting the war on drugs? It's the plague of our society. Has been for years. And what is the result? Drug offenders who go to prison to learn how to be better criminals. Why do we continue to build prisons, and not drug treatment facilities? These people are so strung out on drugs these days, that they are breaking into homes and businesses. Even with all the modern surveillance equipment available, and the rise in homeowners whom arm themselves; it hasn't detoured these people? Why? Because they're minds and bodies are ill. They don't need to go to jail, they need mental and medicinal treatment for their illnesses.
Is there a drug problem. Ofcourse there is. But no classes in school to address them in length. Health class in high school, isn't enough. Education needs to be more proactive. And it needs to start in elementary schools. Parents of drug abusing children need to suffer real consequences for their lacking in lifestyle choices in preparing their children for a drug-free life.
I know there are jobs out there for these people. Many of them have only one daily quest. Find the means for their next fix. Most can't pass a drug test, if they did find a job? So it seems it's either jail, welfare, or disability for these people. And that just sucks for us tax payers. Our elected politicians are so out of touch with society's underworld, because they are so far removed from it. Drug deals are done on the sly, and most have mastered their "jobs" as drug dealers. So why do we continue to dump millions into the war on drugs?
I've noticed over the past several years that there are bootcamp type jails for lessor criminals and juveniles. Why not build facilities to detox these addicts? Run them through a bootcamp type facility to build their minds and bodies, and then retrain them to work again in society through some vocational type facility. Make it a process, they won't ever want to repeat. Detox, bootcamp, vocational retraining. They would have to successfully pass one phase, before moving onto the next.
I understand that there are many of these people who are not only addicts, but they're lazy. Maybe they haven't worked a day in their lives since dropping out, or graduating high school? They live attached to their cellphones, video games, their drug or alcohol of choice, and a bag of Doritos. I get that they may never attend college, or even attempt to. So what is left? Well, alot. They're are jobs out there. I see them in the paper everyday. It maybe a minimum wage job, but it's a start.
Problem is, these people are hooked on these drugs, and they can't break free from their daily routine of drugs, they don't want to work, they can't pass a drug screen, and they have more excuses for why they don't have a job, then money in their pockets to buy drugs or alcohol. But the worst problem we have...these people still have the idea that they are "entitled". They don't want to work at McDonalds for $8/hr. They feel like they should just get paid as much as anyone else doing their job. Even if that person has been there for 10 or 20 years, and earned their pay scale.
It's not just the drugs that are bringing our society down. What is going on with adults having sex with kids? Teachers, coaches, police officers, doctors, politicians, the neighbor down the street, etc... What about all these online crooks stealing identities, financial information, etc....? And what is going one with our kids all dressing and acting like gang thugs? And why is it that all I ever see on television, is insurance company commercials anymore? If they are making so much money that they can run television ads; it's no wonder we have inflated insurance rates! There's just no moral middle ground anymore.
It's sad days we live in folks. It's gonna get worse before it get better. And that bothers me. I'm expecting to be a Grandfather for the first time in October this year. What a horrible world he/she will be left to live in now, and after I'm gone.
