Went to the Range

We had company for a few days last week. My wife's cousin and her husband came for a visit. The women were out doing their thing so I took her husband Jim to the range. Jim had not shot a gun since he got out of the service in 1968. I took my .22, .38 and .40 to the range. Started him out with the .22 and Jim did very well. Then to the .38 and the .40. He did very well with the .38 but did not do to well with the .40. I believe he was afraid of the kick and was jerking the trigger. Jim lives in the Cook country IL and has been talking about getting a handgun. When we brought back the targets his wife was impressed which may make his purchase of a handgun easier!

Sounds like time well spent. Don't write Jim off so fast on the recoil fear so quickly. I have many people who shoot my 45 better than my 9mm. Not because of recoil, but because of the trigger.

I applaud you for getting Jim out to the Range! I hope his wife will be supportive if he decides to protect her by owning a firearm. Maybe the Ladies will get to the range soon!

The next time they come up I will do my best to get his wife to go shooting. Jim has been telling his wife that they should go and learn to shoot and get a gun. I will get him to try the .40 again.

My oldest child is a girl and I have gone to the gun range with her two younger brothers a lot. She has expressed interest so the next time we go she will be going along with us. If possible I will be taking her to the range with just the two of us before then. Given the opportunity to go shopping or go to the gun range would prove to be a very tough decision for her.

Just because somebody had a hard time shooting one gun does not mean thy shouldn't shoot or own other firearms.
