Well, it finally happened...

Blue screen of death for USA Carry forums on my workplace network (hardwired and wifi). I cannot browse or use the forums at work. Guess my health care organization somehow feels that firearms are not an appropriate subject matter per our information technology usage and guidelines policy. As an employee of a private organization, it kind of stinks. We can sit and Facebook or Twitter or watch ESPN online all day, but I can't read or learn about or contribute on firearm discussions.

If I disable the wifi connection to the company network, it works. It's a work-around. Just annoying that I have to do that now. It'll be interesting to see if other websites get blocked out.

That blows. As much as I hate to say it though, healthcare and guns are not on the best of speaking terms right now :P

I downloaded a program that would stop all explicit sites and adult material from popping up on my computer. The first time I tried to get on USACarry I was blocked. That really made me mad. So I got rid of that lib program. I never tried to go to some web sites like the TEA Party, the GOP, a Conservative web site or others that the lib-o-rats would not like. But it would not be a surprise if they were banned also.

But we ALL know that liberals "Are the Tolerant Ones!" :jester:

Lol that doesn't surprise me, either. It's hard to get away from the liberalism.

Could it be that forums in general were all blocked? Or are you sure it was only USA Carry?

A place I worked last summer seemed to ban anything that had firearm in the main heading, such as gunbrokers, but I was able to get on USA Carry???

If you have enough data available on your plan so that you won't incur overages (I have Unlimited grandfathered), there are ways to use a smartphone as a hotspot, either wired or wireless. I don't know what the Apple options are, but Android phones can do it, and that's how I got around my company's zero-tolerance policy for personal use of their networks and computers when I worked the graveyard shift. Easy Tether Pro was like $10 I think. Might've even been less than that, but it's a wired (through USB) backdoor use of your phone's data.

Fox-Fi has wired capability too, but it's selling-feature is that it backdoors through your phone's Wi-Fi ports to use its data connection, turning your phone into a true wireless hotspot without having to pay for the feature through your provider. It's as seamless as using a dedicated hotspot after you learn how to use it.

Neither are good options if you're real limited on your data plan, but before I set up my Unlimited, I was using a 4-gig plan and only had an overage one time, but surfed the interwebs for at least half my shift every night that I worked.

Something like that might serve your purposes. If not, bummer, guess you're stuck with being locked out.

Well you could continue to use the phone, either tethered with USB connection like blues said / or wifi enabled hotspot. check your phone first before buying any apps, some can do it without buying an app.

Unless your IT department is on the ball and depending how they blocked it, and depending on your level of tech skills / google ability :)
If they blocked it via DNS - you could set the work PC to use different DNS server to resolve host names (or just remember the IP address of USAcarry) 8.8.8.8 = google DNS others to try is OpenDNS.org as well.
you could also set proxy settings in your browser - firefox has it under "tools > options > network > connection settings" - you can connect to a proxy server which then directs your requests bypassing some blocks (such as simple DNS block / etc)
You could also use a VPN and tunnel out - many options available, Open VPN is free - Ive used it both at home, and in a work environment (for a non-profit).

Beyond that - get friendly with IT staff, and ask why they would block USAcarry? then see if they can unblock it for you? and or send a message up the food chain to get it unblocked during "lunch" hour?

For what it's worth...
I retired from a job with the U.S.Government at an ARMY DEPOT where they BLOCKED all sites that showed weapons of any type available to civilians. The ARMY blocked weapons! LOL...
along with porn, ebay and other things like twitter, facebook and countless others. If you wanted access to a site, you would have to submit a request and "I.T." may smile upon your request and allow you a brief period and then promptly block it again.
But I retired before smart phones started to allow access via a USB or other connection through them, so I don't know the whole story to date. Just glad I retired.
I have a CC permit in PA. and I am a Vietnam era vet.

Hey, BUmmedic, why don't you just spend your time at work earning your pay from your employer instead of playing on your computer? That's what they are paying you for.

Wow, bummer --- I'm connected via a public high school's connection without problem.

Don't know for sure, but maybe he's on break.

For example, I'm in the high school cafeteria ----- I've driven the band 135 miles for a competition and 5 hours later will drive them back (exactly as my job requires).

And yes, I realize today is Saturday!

Do you know what his work entails him to do?

In my opinion, it doesn't matter; he is still using his company's computer to play. I'm sure his company did not intend him to play on their computer, even on his own time.

You're sure? The company I work for now, and the primary ambulance service I worked for in Oregon does not and did not have a problem with me using their computers during down time.

I guess it doesn't matter, your opinion has nothing to do with their policies, just what you think you know of the OP...

He's right... my beef is it seems they are singling out certain sites while allowing full, uninhibited access to others.
