Wasp Spray?.......

I received this email today from a friend and I was wondering what your thoughts were on it.......

Subject: Wasp Spray

I know some of you own GUNS but this is something to think
about...---

If you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way to wreck someone's
evil plans for you. Did you know this? I didn't. I never really
thought of it before. I guess I can get rid of the baseball bat.

Wasp Spray - A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high
risk area was concerned about someone coming into the office on
Monday to rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked
the local police departmentabout using pepper spray and they
recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead.

The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and
is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get
too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily
blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote.
She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract
attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also
keeps one nearby at home for home protection. Thought this was interesting and might be of use.

On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in
Toledo dead, self defense experts have a tip that could save your life.

Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview
High School . For decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp and
hornet spray near your door or bed.

Glinka says, "This is better than anything I can teach them."

Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective
than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so
if someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says "spray the culprit in the eyes".
It's a tip he's given to students for decades.

It's also one he wants everyone to hear. If you're looking for
protection, Glinka says look to the spray. "That's going to give you
a chance to call the police; maybe get out." Maybe even save a life.

Please share this with all the people who are precious to your life

Did you also know that wasp spray will kill a snake? And a mouse! It
will! Good to know, huh? It will also kill a wasp.!!!!

I have heard of this before...they even tell single ladies to carry in your vehicle...(just don't know how it would be in the extreme heat or cold)

I understand people will use anything they can to protect themselves, but I would pass on this one. Sure I might use it if it were the only thing I could put my hands on, but I would not buy it with the sole purpose of using it for defense. First of all, it is poison and it my cause permanent damage to someone not to mention you or an innocent person near by. If a small child or baby is accidentally hit with it they may have serious injuries from it. Secondly, the cans are usually huge. I can not imagine my wife fitting a large can in her purse. Finally, there are other sprays and items designed for defense and in much smaller containers. I would not want to go to court because I blinded a person with Wasp spray that I admittedly bought for self defense. I don't believe I would win that one.

But you didn't buy the wasp spray for 'self-defense'.....you bought it to 'kill insects'! :victory:

I would definitely use it if I had that and nothing else. But I'd hate to tell the prosecuting attorney that I bought it for that purpose.

Why would you ever admit you bought it for self defense? Just like if you are involved in a shooting, I was afraid for my life grabbed the first thing available. I'm upset and have nothing else to say until I can calm down and talk to my lawyer.

maybejim, that is the point. If you are buying something buy the right thing. Get pepper spray or something similiar. If it was the only thing I had, I would use it too.

It sounds like the wasp spray in many circumstances is the right thing. In the average office, which is less obtrusive, wasp spray or pepper spray? Which is more effective? You never have any discussion with the police or lawyers or witnesses beyond "my life was in danger, I protected myself, I'm very upset".

When the BG and his attorney jumps your case for an EPA violation and misuse of product, remember pepper spray was available.

Thanks for all your replies. I have come up with my own opinion after reading all of these.....I look at it like this.....I would use a table lamp to ward off an attacker if I had too. Now, I didn't go out and buy that lamp for self protection. If it works, use it. You know what I'm sayin'.....

This reminds me of a slogan heard around December 7th every year ... if there had been no Pearl Harbor attack, there would have been no Hiroshimo.

force met with force. wasp spray or .45 spray ... stop the threat with SOMETHING.

Using Wasp Spray or any type of insecticide or pesticide "in a manner that is inconsistent with its labeling" is a violation of Federal Law.

Really? What law is that? How is it any different than using a gun to shoot someone? Or a baseball bat or a 2x4 or a tire iron? Do you realy think there would be a prosecution even if there were such a law? Really?

if it was nearby and all i had to ward off an attack i would definitely use it ......after all it is to rid pests.......
;)

yes, i read this in a email sent to me, that wasp spray is more effective than pepper spray.
for one, it has three times the range. it also has many more uses, some pepper sprays are a one shot deal. and its way cheaper.
The only drawback is its size. not very practical for someone who wants to use it while jogging or just to carry in public.
