Breaking news.... U.S. News - 8-year-old girl critically wounded in Washington state school shooting

Not much detail, more will evolve on this sad story, including the fodder for anti's.....

Yep. They already jumped on that bandwagon:

U.S. News - 8-year-old girl critically wounded in Washington state school shooting

"Washington state is a loosely regulated state when it comes to firearms," said Gregory Roberts, executive director of Washington Cease Fire, a Brady Campaign affiliate.

Hello, Mr. Roberts, it IS ILLEGAL for the 9 year old to possess the handgun in Washington, it IS ILLEGAL for the 9 year old to take the gun to school. Two separate criminal violations of the statute occurred. So EXACTLY what the hell are you talking about, Mr. Roberts?!?

The anti-gun people remind me of vultures waiting for something like this. They will pay little attention to the laws that were broken and concentrate on trying to pass further useless laws. If gun laws worked so well Chicago would be one of the safest places on earth.

washington Elementry shooting

Mr. Roberts, i agree with the Post...Isnt it illegal for a 9 yr old to have a Firearm in their possesion? A very tragic event has unfolded here, and the "Law" has been broken. The 9 yr old brought a Firearm to school, did you expect a different outcome? What do the Parents have to say? Tragedy...Yes, the elementry school student had access to the Firearm. What is the Legal age for firearm ownership?

I live in Waashington state and possess a Concealed Pistol License. I have been following this as closely as I can. The last I heard, the 9-year old boy had the gun in his backpack and dropped it on a desk and the weapon fired. Yeah, right. The boy's parents should be prosecuted for not making sure the firearm was not accessible to this brat. Add to that the parents had obviously not taught the boy about guns. I taught my kids about guns and trained them to shoot. They were also trained not to touch a gun unless I was with them. I also made sure my kids could not get my guns. Firearm ownership carries a huge responsibility, and if one is not prepared to meet that responsibility, then they should not possess firearms.

It just amazes me how the sheeple in this country are so ignorant as to blame an inanimate object for the bad things people do.

I saw on the news last night the father claiming the kid got the gun when visiting his mother. Kid is in jail. They talked about a judge explaining the charges against him to the kid.

Tragic, but firearm safety should be the responsibility of the parents. If society was not so phobic, more people would have weapon and it would be taught by the family.

There is much more to this story than just the kid brought a gun to school. His uncle has legal custody of him rather than his father or mother. The article I read did not say anything other than both his parents were well know to law enforcement and makes me wonder if his mother had the gun legally. This is a very sad situation with a very mixed up young fellow that is now in big trouble along with a little girl fighting for her life or at least a normal life. They can pass all the new gun laws they want to but I don't see any that would have helped in this situation because the ones that are already on the books didn't do any good.

where in the 2A does it say "except for children?"

Oh come on... you're not going to start this again are you?

No! Wait a minute! You're right. My 3 year old nephew has the same 2A right I do. I'm gonna run right out and get him a Glock to play with. Yeah. Yeah. And make sure there is a full magazine and no trigger lock on it. That's what I'm gonna do. :sarcastic:

Society in general have a moral responsibility to teach their young right from wrong. Evidently, "taking a loaded weapon to school being illegal" lesson was missed by the parent or ignored by the child.

I got my first firearm when I was 5, I turned out OK. My father taught me well I guess, now at 22 with a PTC and carrying for almost a year. I'm safer around a firearm than he is lol. Firearm safety IMO should be taught by a competent parent and they take youth firearm safety.

Agree completely. The earlier the children are taught about firearms and freedom the better this nation will be.
