>>Wal Mart refuses to sell shotgun to 'petite woman'.<<

Is there such a thing as “too much” gun for a woman? That’s what one Walmart employee in Clarksville, IN, implied when he “firmly refused” to sell a Mossberg 930 to petite Prayse Dangler, she claims.
Not only that, but primarily based on her size, the employee allegedly threatened to call the FBI and asserted that she was really buying the gun for someone else.

Walmart Employee Allegedly Refuses to Sell Prayse Dangler a Gun Because It Is Too Big | TheBlaze.com

As someone who sells firearms on a part-time basis I definitely would have reccommended a 20ga for the lady but I certainly wouldn't have refused the sale if she really wanted a 12ga. From what I read in the story there was no evidence of a straw purchase taking place. Straw purchases are a big no-no in the world of FFLs and I'm sure Walmart tells their employees to err on the side of caution but it looks like this salesperson was a bit overzealous to say the least.

This sounds like a BIG problem for Wall Mart, I wonder if she’ll sue, for her gun rights being trampled.

While I agree it's as bad image for Wal Mart, they will certainly lose a couple of shoppers over this, they are still a business, they still reserve the right to deny services to anyone at anytime. They aren't the government infringing her rights, so the 2a has nothing to do with it.

She should just go somewhere else to buy her merchandise.

As wrong as it seems, I wouldn't push it too hard. There isn't a single walmart in Central Illinois that sells firearms anymore due to some frivolous lawsuit a decade ago. While I'm not a huge fan of walmart, the ones I've been to that do sell guns typically have a pretty decent inventory and price them to sell.

She wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Any firearm retailer can deny a sale if they think it's not on the up-and-up. The salesperson may have been wrong to believe that it was a straw purchase but he (and Walmart) were within their rights to deny the sale if they were suspicious for any reason. Her 2A rights are not affected, just her ability to purchase a shotgun at that particular Walmart at that particular time.

Why is it as soon as the word "gun" is mentioned a certain percentage of the population immediately jumps on the Second Amendment bandwagon? It's as bad as the anti-gun crowd that jumps on the anti-gun bandwagon as soon as the word gun is mentioned about anything.

Like if someone is subjected to an illegal search without consent and without a warrant and a gun is found... immediately someone is going to start jumping up and down on the Second Amendment, when it is the Fourth Amendment that was violated.

A Wal Mart employee made a bad business decision that they probably were not authorized to make, the employee should be fired....but that's all it is, a bad business decision.

The Walmart employee sounds like a sexist overzealous redneck. I know, like half my friends.

The version Walmart carries has an 18.5" barrel, is 39" overall length and weighs just 7 1/2 lbs. It doesn't show the extended magazine on the picture on their website. It is 12 ga. but it's semi-auto, with dual gas vents to reduce recoil according to Mossberg, and in my experience auto loaders have less recoil than pump or O/U models to begin with. My wife is only 5' 2" but I think she could handle this shotgun just fine. Especially if she thought they were after her dog.

I think the dude needs some serious counseling about his attitude toward women.

Common we all know the average IQ of walmart employees is two points above idiot. Go to another Walmart, buy the shotgun and send a letter of complaint to Corporate.

Every time I work a gun show there are 1 or 2 transactions that we'll refuse because they're obvious straw purchases. Most of the time it's pretty innocent....some permit-less person having their friend buy the gun for them in order to get around the mandatory waiting period or something along those lines. Somethimes they're not so innocent like recently where a customer decided which pistol he wanted and then when he found out he'd have to pass a background check he said "no thanks" and walked away. 2 minutes later his buddy (who had been with him the whole time and never said a word) came back and tried to purchase the same pistol. This time we were the ones to say "no thanks". In either case it's completely illegal and can result in arrests and the suspension/revocation of the dealer's FFL. It's not worth it.

Or just poorly trained (at Walmart??? Naaaahhhhh...) with a rather incomplete definition of "straw purchase".
OR over trained! Walmart is in bed with Bloomberg's Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership

#7 Employee Responsibility Training. Participating retailers will participate in an employee responsibility training program focused on deterring illegal purchasers. The Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership will create an online training system based on Wal-Mart's training program.

There's a waiting period in Florida?

3 business days (excluding the date of purchase, holidays and weekends) for handguns, unless you have your CWFL ..... ie: Go to the LGS on Monday and pick out and purchase your handgun (no CWFL), then wait tue/wed/thur and pick up handgun on Friday. Counties if I remember correctly have the ability to extend the waiting period to 5 business days and to include long guns though few have.

So would Walmart not sell a 6'5" 390lb man a .22 pistol, because the gun is too small?
