VW Handgun storage

My wife and I bought a VW Jetta sedan, small car in fact its the only real car we have owned, we have had big cars with big storage option in the past.

I am contemplation purchasing a safe for the car specifically for my 1911, we own the 2012 Jetta and its pretty small in terms of handgun safe options. Does anyone out there have a similar car with a safe not in the trunk? if so what do you do to protect you firearm.

I had a Ford Escort wagon with a small Wal Mart safe cabled to the passenger seat on the back floor board but I almost never had people in the back seat. Now I put my gun in the under seat storage on my bike and cable lock it to the frame
