Versa Carry accident

Have been CCing for 40+ years, and over that time I've carried any number of handguns, in all types of holsters. Recently I purchased a Versa Carry for my new Ruger LC9 (great little pistol, though it does bark). Was at my new gun club yesterday and stood up from rifle bench when my untucked oversized shirt pulled the pistol out of the holster (?) and it fell onto concrete deck in front of several other club members--how embarrassing! No damage done, except to my pride. I've never had that happen before, and want to get feedback from other Versa users. I've had situations where I ran full-out, tussled with people and even fell down a full flight of stairs, ass-over-teakettle, without losing my piece. Will go back to using an IWB with thumb break. Anyone else have bad experience with this type of carry? Used it for over 4 months, and it was very comfortable and almost print-less. Am very disappointed in product!

Well... I don't have any experience with this holster nor have I ever seen one in person but in looking at the web site it looks as though the only retention is provided by the wearers waist band? Yours must have gotten caught on your shirt? I use a positive retention holster for that very reason. It's unlikely, but could happen, so why take the chance. The Versa is a neat idea and could be an option in certain scenarios but I wouldn't use it for my primary rig.

i like the crossbreed iwb style holster for secure comfort but thanks for the heads up on the versa carry. it will save me from making the same mistake purchasing one for myself

Retention is critical. Would have checked that before buying, or at the very least, before heading out the door. I know hind sight is 20/20, but I'm thinking you should have already known that, after 40 years and all.

I could not agree more. MY BAD, but at age 65 I am not as physically active as I was even just 10 years ago, and didn't expect it to occur, even when I shoulda known better. I wrongly trusted a product (and method) that went against all my training and experience--won't do that again!

I haven't had anything like that happen with mine, no retention issues at all. Must have been a fluke, what size did you get I have the large for deep cover and I've used it with my LC9 and my M&P Shield.

A quality concealed carry holster whether leather or kydex retains the firearm due to the friction of the closely fit holster material to the gun. Holsters lacking such need an active retention device.

I, too, got deep cover. Perhaps if I try some scenerios, I could replicate accident, but it's not worth the time and effort. I'll just stick to good old thumb break, and not experiment anymore.

I bought one of these at the NRA convention, it was ok, I did not have a problem with retention but I just like my Galco and N82 tactical holster better, so now the versa carry is in the drawer of holsters. And one other thing, versa carry recommends not having one in the chamber, just not willing to do that either.

I have a Versa Carry for my Bersa Thunder .380... bought it wore it a few days and decided it can not
replace a nice holster.
