Vegas Casino carry?

I have a California CCW, which is not accepted by Nevada, but I've also had a Utah non-res permit, which just opened up Nevada for me this month with the new laws. I have a son in Northern Nevada, where I can now carry while I visit, but my question is for Las Vegas, where I also visit often. Is concealed carry with permit allowed in a casino? Also, I think I've heard that if you want to carry in Las Vegas, with a permit, you must register your weapons with Clark County sheriff, within 24 hours?
Could someone clarify this for me please? If I go to Vegas, can I carry concealed with my Utah permit? Do I need to visit the Sheriff for registration if I'm there for the weekend?
Thanks to all, Bersa:eek:

I have no idea about Vegas, they have some different local policies there, but in N. Nevada it is not illegal to CCW in a Casino. I have heard that people who have been discovered CCW have been asked to leave in a couple cases but it's not against the law.

Good questions. As far as I know, you can carry concealed in a casino as long as the entrance you are entering doesn't have a NO Guns sign. I personally don't carry if I am going to a casino but that's because the only time I do go, I am most likely going to have a drink.

I do believe you have to register your gun within 24 hours though. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

It was stated on another web forum that someone had contacted LVPD and was told that as long as you were staying in LV less than 60 days it was not required to register your gun. I couldn't find anything official on their website though. You may want to contact someone at one of the links from the website I just posted.

Thanks to all for the info, and for the link as it was very helpful. I think on my next trip I will go see about the registration of the weapon just to be on the cautious side. I'll have to look closely for any signs or metal detectors as I enter. And of course, if I'm planning on having a drink I won't carry anyway. thanks again to all for the quick responses. Bersa:D

The web site seems to allow exceptions to registering

The web site states the following:

"Registration of pistols within twenty-four hours. (Clark County Code 12.04.110)
Any person receiving title to a pistol, whether by purchase, gift, or any other transfer, and whether from a dealer or from any other person, shall, within twenty-four hours of such receipt, personally appear at the county sheriff's office, together with the pistol, for the purpose of registering the same with the sheriff. It shall be the duty of the sheriff to register the pistol, and he may, and is hereby authorized to cooperate in any manner he sees fit with other law enforcement agencies, and with licensed dealers, relative to registration of pistols, so that efficient registration shall be secured at minimum cost and duplication. (Ord. 242 §§ 11, 1965)"

The above seems to apply to the acquisition of handguns, which in the case of individuals bringing handguns they already own to Las Vegas, would not be subject to local purchase laws. It does not appear to apply to guns one already owns but are being transported into Clark County.

"Registration of firearms capable of being concealed. (Clark County Code 12.04.200)
It is unlawful for any person to own or have in his possession, within the unincorporated area of Clark County, a gun, pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed, unless the same has first been registered with the sheriff or with a police department of any of the incorporated cities of Clark County. (Ord. 242 §§ 20, 1965)"

The above states that registration is needed if one possesses a handgun in the UNincorporated areas of Clark County. If one arrives at the airport and stays within Las Vegas, would one be in an UNincorporated area or an incorporated area?

What am I missing? Is there case law that clarifies these points?

This is just my 2 cents because I'm not positive of your answer, but I don't think I've ever been to a casino that didn't serve liquor, and I thought most all concealed carry licenses state that it's not legal to carry anyplace liquor is being served. Just a thought. Good luck on your quest to find out.

Might not be a good idea if you are going to drink alcoholic beverages.
Guns and alcohol are not good friends, just as cars and alcohol don't seem to mix well.
Of course if you are in there can concealed carry, when you hit the big one don't pull your weapon and start celebrating, by shooting the ceiling.

I have heard other people on forums talk about carrying in the casinos in Las Vegas. They said it was legal as long as it wasn't posted. This is second hand knowledge obviously. I am really curious about the registration as well. I have a Vegas trip in Dec and if anyone actually gets answers to these questions please post them.

thanks

The new regulation for registration in Clark County is here

http://www.leg.state.nv.us/74th/Bills/SB/SB92_R2.pdf
SB92_R2.pdf (application/pdf Object)

Starting 1/1/08 it gives a 60 day period before needing to register with Clark County if you are visiting or becoming a resident. A 72 hour period is in effect for purchase, transfer, gift etc.

At least I believe that is how it reads.

Vegas casino carry

Darn! Raybsc: That was my whole intent! Nothing like hitting the big one and being able to blast a few celebratory rounds into the ceiling! I'm sure they would understand, wouldn't they?
Seriously though, I know some states won't let you enter an establishment that serves alcohol at all, in some cases even for consumption later, such as a gas station with a mini mart, you can't even go into the building to pay for gas, because they sell six packs of beer! I know in Arizona, you cannot go into a restuarant that serves ANY alcohol, while in California, you can be in a restuarant that serves, providing that less than 40% of their business is alcohol related, and that YOU are not partaking. If Nevada has a law of no establishment that serves ANY alcohol, then of course we can't carry in there. On my next visit I will stop at the sheriff's office to check on registration requirements, and I will ask all these questions.

IIRC, as of this time, no. I don't believe NV has entered into reciprocity with any state, and Utah may not happen since they do not require live fire training. Sucks, because I have a UT non-res permit too. Your best bet is to acquire a NV non-res permit while you're there.

Nevada now recognizes 8 states. I have just renewed my Nevada Non-Res permit and the Storey County folks said it would take a couple of months because of the FBI backround checks.

My Utah will cover me until it arrives. BTW, the new Nevada Non-Res permit is good for 5 years.

Beginning Oct. 1, the state of Nevada will recognize permits from eight other states that allow people to carry concealed weapons, the Nevada Department of Public Safety announced.

Those states are Alaska, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Tennessee and Utah.

The 2007 Nevada Legislature passed a law that allowed concealed carry permits from other states to be used in Nevada. The Department of Public Safety, with the help of the Nevada Sheriffs and Chiefs Association, reviewed the laws from other states. It found 16 other states that had an electronic database accessible 24 hours a day that identifies valid permit holders. Of those 16, only eight had concealed carry permit laws that were as stringent or more stringent than Nevada, the Department of Public Safety said.

It will review the list of approved states every year, the Department of Public Safety said.

Thanks for the corrected information. I hadn't heard anything in a while, and I'm glad Utah's on the list. Now I don't have to renew my NV CCW

My pleasure ZW. I had the info freshly available so I figured I would share.
The better and more up to date our information here is the better our credibility is.
I have renewed 3 permits his year. My Pa. just got sent off this AM. My wife now has 2 permits with a Utah on the way.

where you can't conceal carry in NV

NRS 202.3673 states where in Nevada you can not legally carry concealed.

Basically, it's government buildings, airports and on school property.

Also, since NRS 202.3673 also states this as a prohibited location:

"A public building that has a metal detector at each entrance or a sign posted at each public entrance indicating no firearms are allowed in the building."

Some people believe it applies to all buildings open to the public. But, that belief is wrong, since as defined in NRS 202.3673 "public building" means government building.

That said, if you do approach a building with metal detectors or sign prohibiting weapons/firearms, it's an indication that they do not allow conceal carry and you will be asked to leave the premises if they catch you carrying.

Remember all business/private property can ask you to leave their property for any reason. If you do not comply, you can be arrested for tresspassing.

So, yes, you can carry concealed inside a casino. Just don't get caught or expose your handgun and scare the sheeple.

"blue card" registration

On 10-01-2007, SB92 went into effect and changed NRS 244.364.

As amended by SB92, NRS 244.364 changes Clark County Code 12.04.110 & 12.04.200.

The change makes it so that non-residents of Clark County have to register their handguns only if they are staying more than 60 days in Clark County and residents of Clark County will have up to 72 hours to register their handguns.

This change goes into effect on 01-01-2008.

So, until 01-01-2008, Clark County Code 12.04.110 & 12.04.200 requires all persons in Clark County to register their handguns within 24 hours.

Currently, if you are caught possessing unregistered handguns in Clark County, (depending on your demeanor & the disposition of the LEO contacting you) you will either be taken to a substation, have your handguns registered & given a warning or you will be placed under arrest & have your handguns confiscated.

So, as a non-resident of Clark County, if you intend to legally carry conceal in Clark County before 01-01-2008, be safe and register your handguns with LVMPD. Takes less than 5-10 minutes and can be done at any LVMPD substation.
