VA Questions

You might want to pass this to everyone that you know, who is a veteran.

From a friend who is a veteran:

I had a doctor’s appointment at the local VA clinic yesterday and found something very interesting I would like to pass along...
While going through triage before seeing the doctor, I was asked at the end of the exam, three questions.

(1. Did I feel stressed?
(2. Did I feel threatened?
(3. Did I feel like doing harm to someone?

The nurse then informed me, if I had answered yes to any of the questions, I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have gone into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland Security.

Looks like they are going after the vets." Be forewarned and be aware. The Obama administration has gone on record as considering veterans and gun owners as potential terrorists. If you are a veteran, you've been warned. If you know veterans, please pass this on to them.

This has been going around for some time with the exact same wording. At one time the VA did put a lot of of Vets on the ATF list but they were removed. By law the only way you can lose your permit is if you have been adjudicated mentally ill or have been placed in a mental institution. If you voluntarily admit yourself into a mental institution then this is not a disqualifyer. They VA can say anything they want but the law is the law!

Tennessee also used to be able to expel a carry permit for any kind of mental therapy, but they passed a law back in January clarifying that only "criminally insane" can't have carry permits, as in that your mental illness causes you to break the law. You can't be denied a carry permit in Tennessee anymore for consciously committing yourself to a mental institute either.

But...

while it is very true you only lose you permit if you get court ordered into an institution, I would point out there are basically only 3 ways to get a judge to do that. 1) Threaten to harm yourself 2) threaten to harm someone else 3) or be so disturbed that you no longer can perform the basic functions necessary to survive (eating, cooking, shopping, etc). So, in a way the OP is correct.

I may be wrong, but are not most of these "lone gunman" who shoot down scores of people, NON-VETS?
Why are vets always getting the finger?
If it wasn't for us there would be no united states.

Those three questions are standard PTSD screening questions. They only indicate to the Dr. that further inquiries MAY be made. The nurse is incorrect. The VA can in no way cause the loss of your 2nd Amendment rights.

I'm service-connected for, and have been diagnosed with PTSD for over 30 years. I buy a firearm about once every couple of months, and I bought two handguns today. The VA has no bearing on your 2nd Amendment rights. I work for the VA. I work in Health Information. If the VA was sending info to the feds on every PTSD case, I would know it...the hospital I work at is a psych facility... it's NOT happening. There is NO policy in place that will enable the VA to adversely affect your rights without a court order.... FROM A JUDGE.

I forgot, if it's on the internet, it MUST be true......... READ.

(B) the person has been found by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority to no longer suffer from the mental health condition that was the basis of the adjudication or commitment, respectively, or has otherwise been found to be rehabilitated through any procedure available under law; or

(C) the adjudication or commitment, respectively, is based solely on a medical finding of disability, without an opportunity for a hearing by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority, and the person has not been adjudicated as a mental defective consistent with section 922(g)(4) of title 18, United States Code, except that nothing in this section or any other provision of law shall prevent a Federal department or agency from providing to the Attorney General any record demonstrating that a person was adjudicated to be not guilty by reason of insanity, or based on lack of mental responsibility, or found incompetent to stand trial, in any criminal case or under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Amen. I think the government, "big sis", and the anti-gun crowd like to attack us law abiding citizens and especially veterans because they know that we are really good a following orders. They know that we will try to do our darndest to do what the law says, and that makes us easier to track down. If we were slippery and sneaky, like the criminal element, then they would have to work harder at getting to the real problem. I don't think they like hard work.
