Utah Permit

Has anyone heard of Legal Heat as a method of obtaining a conceal carry permit? If so, would you reccomend their course?

I have seen them advertised at a store near my house but do not have any experience with their classes.

I took their class at the Eastern Outdoor Show in PA. Very professional and informative. They provide a certificate after completion and they had fingerprinting available and take your picture as required to get a permit. I just received my non-resident Utah CCW a few weeks back. I would recommend them.

One thing to say about the non res UT permit. You might be able to get a non res permit but when it comes time to renew it, you will not be able to do so unless you hold a CCW from your state of residence.

Why would they give you one in the first place if you don't have a resident permit from your home state?

My understanding is that you only have to to have a CHP from your state if Utah and your state have reciprocity. For example, Oregon residents are not required to have a resident CHP, but Nevada residents are. (It would seem that this is to prevent people from sending their money out of state, without first spending some in their own state.)

I dropped my Utah app in the mail yesterday. :yes4:

I only have a Utah permit. There's no problem with that.

I took the Legal Heat course and it was great. I learned a few things and felt like the course was very thorough but also straightforward and went pretty quickly.

If you get a non-resident Utah permit do you have to renew it every year? I've thought about getting it but it seems it would be a pain to constantly renew a permit I'm not going to utilize actively (as I don't plan on traveling much, just looks good to have)

Stick to an NRA certified course. It is accepted by all states. You might also want to look at getting a Multi-State CCW that covers more states & cost less. AZ is an easy 1/2 page application, fingerprins & copy of NRA cert. Cost roughly $80.00. It is the one I suggest to all my students as well as FL.

Legal Heat is great and I recommend them to everyone. The one they teach here is good for idaho, Utah, Arizona and Oregon (if you're an Oregon resident). Arizona and Utah are by far the most popular permits to get. The instructors are NRA certified and they employ lawyers that stay up to date on the laws. The owner is even a lawyer, he taught my class. They have a great app too for android/iphone/ipad which is a great easy to use law reference.

I have the app and have had it for several months. Didn't realize it came from a group that gives lessons. The app is updated constantly, as I understand it.
