My Utah non resident permit has been sent and the tracking info shows delivered yesterday. The clock starts today. Anyone have any recent information on how Utah is taking for NR permits?

R-

Actually if I'm not mistaken the clock doesnt start until check clears or credit card is charged..not the day they receive it.

How did you track your application? Is there someplace on their site, or did you send it in by special mail? I just sent mine in regular mail.

Sent in the paperwork for the wife and myself 2 weeks ago.

Hopefully we should get them back by early May if not sooner.

I'll post when they show up.

Of course, if HR822 in Congress should miraculously go through, we won't need non-res permits, will we?

Realistically, yeah, some day I'll get one or the other. Most likely FL, as it's hard to find a UT trainer around here.

[added]Just found out there will be UT (and FL) class given in my town in a couple weeks - while I'm occupied elsewhere! Sigh

SD honors Utah so as long as you have a SD you can get a UT It's not an issue for you.

Some Utah SB36 clarification

Here's a link to the bill with corrections that seems to clarify its itent:

http://le.utah.gov/~2011/bills/sbillamd/sb0036s01.pdf

See lines 74 - 79 of this version. Basically says to me that IF a resident of a state that recognizes the Utah permit or holds reciprocity with Utah's permit, that applicant must hold a permit from their state. This version does not say that the applicant's state must honor the Utah permit.

So I don't think it would affect folks in a state like Nevada, as long as they get a Nevada license prior to applying for a Utah permit.

I've been told that the bill was designed to prevent folks from avoiding their own state's requirements to get a permit that is valid in that state (like TX). Apparently the TX requirements are much more costly for TX residents than the cost of getting a UT permit.

For example, I live in Oregon, which doesn't recognize any other state's CCL. I will still be able to get a Utah CCL.

If, however, Oregon DID honor the Utah permit, I'd first have to get an Oregon permit prior to applying for (or renewing) a Utah permit.

Utah Cashed My Check

Well, my check to Utah for a CCL cleared my bank today, so I guess that means they cashed it within the last few days and the 60-day clock starts. I mailed it to them on March 21st.

I'll keep you posted on how long it takes

If the national reciprocity bill does not overturn the FEDERAL GUN FREE SCHOOL ZONE LAW it will make little difference because unless you have a state issued gun permit from the SAME STATE in which the school is located AND you travel within 1000 feet of a school you are breaking FEDERAL LAW! BATF has made that clear. Another thread has the ruling on one of the posts.

Look into AZ. If you have the training for FL then you already have the training for AZ. It's also cheaper and turn around time is about 2 weeks.

I do understand what you're saying here...and agree with you...but you should include "knowingly"...

"AND you knowingly travel within 1000 feet of a school"

I acquired a FL permit for my secondary, but I am switching to UT as a second permit, just submitted the app (with a copy of my CO permit in case they don't get around to processing it until after May 10).

I just got mine today, took the class on Feb 4th, so it took 2 months and two days. Have not received the Fla one yet.

Good Morning

To be real honest I have had mine so long that I forget how long it takes to get the first one. I do know that renewals are usually within 3 weeks.

I am just real happy that Utah issues non-res permits.

There was a move on several years ago to stop the non-res due to the cost of processing and maintaining the records.

thanks

From the VCDL VA-Alert today:

For those of you that have Utah Concealed Firearm Permits, there have been some changes of late:

- As of 1/1/2012 to get a Utah non-resident permit, or renew the one you already have you must also have a copy of a valid permit issued by your home state if Utah has reciprocity with that state.

- Utah instructors must have a valid Utah Concealed Firearm Permit.

- As of 5/10/2010 the non-resident renewal fee will be $15

You can read about these changes at the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI)
