USCCA thoughts

Good/Bad/don't know? was listening to their webinar. Wondering if anyone else has and if you had any thoughts on it....

I looked into them a bit. Lots of high-pressure sales and solicitations. "We have all these secrets YOU NEED to know, and we'll sell them to you for the low low price of..."

yep. I joined but let my subscription run out. They constantly tried to sell you stuff. their forums are pretty good, but not worth the money to join. This forum is much better. You really don't get much for the money except a magazine.

Good to hear the tips before I dropped some big cash to join USCCA...it seemed to me from their website that they were all about trying to SELL, SELL, SELL you something so I'm glad I got the tip before I took the plunge!

Like the magazine, but didn't renew my membership. It's just a big marketing scheme beyond the magazine. Now they force you to buy criminal defense insurance with the membership. I already have that through my homeowners policy. A million worth. Pass on the USCCA.....

I have been a member of USCCA for several years, and I'm paid up until 2013. My husband became a member last year. We both love the magazine, and especially the monthly drill. I have gotten tons of free (members only) and valuable downloads on a variety of all shooting subjects. Since I plan on getting my NRA instructors certificate this year, much of that info is going to come in handy for my classes. Also, they offered at a big discount the Dave Grossman seminar that we went to last year. All 8 hours of it on DVD. As for the advertising through the emails, you can opt out of that. My membership was purchased a while back before they went with the criminal defense insurance. I don't know if I will be renewing after that, but for now, we have been very satisfied. The forums have been very helpful to us as we have been in the process of building a security team for our church. In fact, I have made a very good friend from the forums who has helped us a lot.

I joined them a few years back, but as was said they try and sell you stuff, which is why I may let it lapse. They have a good magazine, good forum, and the CCW insurance is good peace of mind for some but I do now want it, and if it becomes mandatory I will quit....

Already mentioned above, but I too signed on prior to the mandatory insurance as part of your subscription. I really enjoy the magazine and found the forum useful but when my subscription expires I will not be renewing.

I respect that the owner(s) are running a business, but their overbearing approach really rubbed me the wrong way.

Agreed not 100% sure what the price is but over a hundred bucks a year for a magazine??? Yes the insurance but just like Obama care that has been shoved down the throats of American citizens I will not pay for something I do not want!!!

Too much spam from the site. Little too "militant" for my taste. Not worth becoming a member, much less renewing if you already are one.

I am letting my membership expire, I got bit by the insurance, so I went online to my profile and put in a dummy credit card info, after getting the insurance it was going to be so much per quarter, then in November they charged $44 and the $44 twice in December. Now they are trying to sell you spouse insurance. Tim has a way of rubbing people the wrong way. So I am letting my membership expire and getting out.
Just my 2 cents worth,
Marcus

I have it and like it.

Magazine is good, insurance is so-so. Hope I never have to use it. Forum is great but they are losing members so I expect that to suffer. You can opt out of the advertising.

I do like the Rob Pincus articles, I really miss him on the "Best Defense" show. I think Mike Seeklander is a great instructor but he goes a bit fast for me.

Someone needs to point out this thread to them, not everyone has deep pockets, I have friends that do not go for their MI ccw simply because of the expense. Close to 300 bucks for the training and permit, add the costs of a decent gun and too many simply cannot afforded it.
So then add one magazine subscription, and bet on it that it will not be one that has pricey and unwanted add on...
These people live on fixed incomes, at the very least it should be optional!

I did

I did go to USCCA and posted on their forums about how unhappy people are with them. Since my membership is paid up to 2013 I'm not too concerned, but for most of you, I do see your point, and I agree. I will probably not renew.

Well, I did go back over to the USCCA and looked at the over 100 replys to my thread. There are quite a few unhappy members there who did not want the Defense Sheild "Insurance" shoved down their throats just to be a part of the membership. There are a few who defend it. As I said earlier...I understand both sides. I am one who will not be able to afford the new "membership dues" when they come up in Oct. 2013. I was just surprised to look at there form and see what a can of worms that I had opened.

I am a brand new member to both USACARRY and USCCA. I joined both because I find that they cannot be compared apples to apples. I joined USACARRY because of its forum and sharing of individual ideas. As with anything free this site seems to have issues with trolling, squabbling and the school-yard name calling that is pathetic and embarrassing, when it shows up. I still like the site, just stating the negative. USACARRY has a free android ap which is also nice and lets me stay connected more often, despite that fact that it CRASHES far too often.
USCCA is more of a business trying to provide value to its members by sharing a broader range of information, educational instruction as well as the insurance bit. I do like their professional articles, videos and general education. Due to the price involved their forum isn't as robust but also has less of the negative aspects of USACARRY. Note I said less, it isn't absent there either since the positive of both sites is the people and the negative for both sites is people - people tend to screw things up.

SOOO, like anything there are positives and negatives to both groups. Use/join what you want and don't get too excited about what you don't.

What I want to point out is that the goals and objectives make both groups on the same side. Nothing is gained when one group puts down/condems the other. Just like anything, a house divided against itself is doomed to fail. Generally, we all want the freedoms outlined in the constitution and bill of rights, including gun rights that allow citizens to protect themselves from the BG. Any ENEMY of the BG, individual gun rights and the liberal agenda is a friend of mine. How each group and each individual fights that enemy is by necessity different but the differences shouldn't divide. In fact, each different group fighting against the "enemies" can help overwhelm, confuse and surround the enemy. However if we allow the differences to divide us we are in big trouble. Once divided we are CONQUERED.

I will continue to enjoy the best that both of these two groups has to offer and fight the bigger battles that pose a threat to my liberties and my ability to enjoy firearms. Any source that helps me protect my family and loved ones, strives to protect my gun rights and pushes back against the liberal ideology that seeks to strip American's of their basic constitutional rights is worthy of basic respect.
Thank you.
