Urgent: NM reciprocity change?

I just got of the phone with the NM Dept of Public Safety, they informed me that as of January 1 of this year that NM only recognizes the permits from states that they have a written agreement with. That would make FL and many other states that unaccepted. I have talked to NRA, ILA, and everyone else I could think of about this and no one as heard about it. I then called NM's main office in Albuqurque several time and they all told me the samething.

Does anyone else know anything about this?

Here is the information from the NM Dept. of Public Safety. It is unclear as it doesn't show a written agreement, but indicates reciprocity with Florida. It does though show the states that do have a written agreement.

Although that is the official site, it may not be up to date, and Louisiana has responded to written agreement request and it doesn't reflect that on the site.

If memory serves, Florida law requires a written agreement with a state for them (Fla.)to recognize another states permit. Since Nm and Fla. both claim that there is a written agreement between both states, then they recognize each others permit. Florida does require that the permit in possession be a home state license.

I agree with what you guys are saying, I read everything on the website as well and came to the same conclusion as you. However, NM's official statement from several offices today was that "As of Jan 1 we no longer accept any CCW permit from a state we do not have a written agreement with". I sent out several emails to the heads of those departments, but have yet to get a response.

There has been no change in the law that would not Recognize Florida's CCW permit! If you call to ask some state offical, require that they give you the NM Statute.
