i turned 21 on December 8th and last week i completed everything i needed to do for the process in new york (orange county). even had my interview done on spot when i went to hand in application which shortened my wait greatly and helped me out a bunch. at the end of the interview i was told i should have my permit within 4 months. the wait is going to stink but my wait is a lot shorter than some have had to do here in NY, so thats a positive.

just figured i would update everyone on the status of my permit and within 4 months there will be another lawful gun owner out there :yes2:

Congrats man. Fellow Ny'er here. Got my permit when i was 26. Good for you getting it ASAP when you turned 21.

21? "You'll shoot your eye out kid!!"

LOL...sorry...couldn't resist. I've been waiting months for an opportunity to use that line.

In all seriousness...I got my first permit when I was 22. I'm 39 now. My big piece of advice is this: Don't stop learning.

And - congratulations!

SOOOOOO Glad I don't live in NY! WOW...Mine didn't even take 18 days lol....

Congrats!!!! As Tom Petty would say....the waiting is the hardest part...lol

Wow that's a long wait. I'm in WI and we just got CC in November. I took my training yesterday and my appl goes in the mail tomorrow. Hope to have the license by the end of Feb.

4 months, holy shikes, I got mine in 3 days, guess it is a good thing i do not live in NY.

Anyways, congratulations and like stated above Keep Learning !!!!!

I just received mine yesterday (permit). It took ~40+ days for turnaround. Using the numbers issued as a guide I would say WI is processing roughly 800 a day. I don't have a weapon to carry yet but as all things go one step at a time. I am doing some research but looking forward to hopefully trying different pistols for kick and such. I have used a .45 ACP (semi-auto) in the past but other than that I have only fired a .22 pistol. Also I am looking into for something for the wife (of course she gets to make that decision herself as it will be hers). I know I have much to learn, hopefully it will be a good journey and may I never have to use it. Thank you for all who are willing to share their experiences and knowledge.

gun Permit

I have had a gun permit most of my adult life. That would be 34-35 years of my life. I will tell you I pulled it twice and followed through only once. The few things to remember. 1. Safety 2. The gun rules about ten of them 3. If you pull it be ready to use it (deadly force). Shooting a person is not the same as a target. Besides that practice and practice some. Enjoy:)
