what are the gun laws in australia ?? do they allow their citizens to carry guns?

The laws are not really great, by our standards here in the USA.

In Australia, civilians are not allowed to possess automatic and semi-automatic firearms, self-loading and pump action shotguns, handguns with a calibre in excess of .38in with only narrow exemptions, semi-automatic handguns with a barrel length less than 120mm, and revolvers with a barrel length less than 100mm.

In Australia, carrying a firearm in plain view in a public place is prohibited without genuine reason. In law, personal protection is not a genuine reason
More info here

I'd bet a self defense shooting of a 'roo would get you in deep doodoo.

That huge Mastiff couldn't handle the kangaroo? For some reason, that is a surprise. Maybe the lady needs to upgrade to a Georgian Ovcharka, it is similar to a bad tempered bear!

Before the government ban guns in Oz, we used to go with a friend with a huge 4-wheel drive with huge roo-bars and shoot 'roos to help the farmers get rid of 'em bastards from their property! Funny but the roos and the haystacks (similar to ostrich) are our national animals...And no, I didn't have a gun. I was the insane driver most of the time...:haha:

Outlaw, you find some damn funny stuff!
I want Tuckers mom to weigh in on this, isn't she from Australia?

Just get a Chow. It's not the size of the dog, it's the size of the fight in the dog.

Wow, I'm surprised. For some reason I assumed Australia had much more freedom when it comes to guns. I'm sorry but Skippy needs to get blown away!

We used to be allowed to have guns...until that random shooting that happened not in the mainland but in a small island of Tasmania where this mental guy killed 35 people, just shooting anything that moved at the time. I can't even buy a small pepper spray to bring home when I do go for a visit. We are at the mercy of the criminals so I haven't really been home for nearly two years now. As for Skippy the bush kangaroo, they are a pest to our farmers over there and the reds are very strong. The cute ones are in the zoo. Some can be hand-fed, but the reds, just stay away from them. A few years ago after the gun ban, someone made business out of kangaroo meat and decided to sell them to the frogs (French). And it went on from there. Some supermarkets have them on their shelves but boy! are they very tough meat! The frogs like them though...I wonder why...??? Pretty much like your mustangs in the wild here, but the mustangs are beautiful animals...the kangaroo...well only a mother can love really. They are prettier far away...way away...

I completely understand the feelings the woman has towards the authorities there. I can actually go her one better. Here in Iowa, with my permit, I can carry my weapon in areas under DNR (Department of Natural Resources) control, but I can't draw or show the weapon under any circumstances :nono: without becoming a criminal.

There is a park where I like to go fishing that they find mountain lion tracks at and have taken game camera pics of every year for the last five or six. So if I'm there fishing, carrying my weapon, and the big cat comes after me, the DNR requires me to leave my weapon holstered and beat the damn thing to death with my fishing rod!

I thank my lucky stars that I've got politicians looking out for my best interests!! :hang2:
