Hi All,

Here is the latest on the CC permit in Ulster County DECEMBER 2011.

July 2011 Dropped off Application
November 2011 Received a letter for Interview
December 2011 Interviewed by Hon. Judge Cahill, got approved for a FULL CARRY

Now waiting, anyone knows how long and whats the process now.

I received my full carry in Ulster in June. I had my interview with Judge Cahill in April. It takes a number of weeks for paperwork to go back and forth and for signatures to happen. I called or emailed Maureen once a week to check the status (her recommendation). She emailed my acceptance letter so I wouldn't have to wait for it in the mail. Since I had already paid for my gun, I just went back to the sheriff's department with the gun receipt and info and Maureen printed and laminated my permit and the card that has the gun info on it. She then gave me a voucher that I brought back into the store to pick up my gun. If you didn't already purchase a gun, print your letter, purchase the gun, go back to the sheriff's department, get your permit and voucher and go back to the store to pick up your gun. There may be some extra time due to this being the holiday season and things not being open Dec/Jan. Many things slow down this time of year. Congrats!

5 MONTHS!!!! FOR AN INTERVIEW????? I really can't understand why you guys in NY don't go rent that u-haul and be done with that state. Congrats for being approved in commie country, but holy crap. You guys REALLY need to get some new people elected in that state! Especially the part about your gun being held hostage while paperwork sits on some morons desk.

snatale42 - you are preaching to the choir. It was a pain in the butt but I have a full carry, can be anywhere but Federal buildings and schools (or other private businesses that don't allow it), don't have to renew, etc. I will only vote for progun politicians (if there are any here) and I have a business and family here. Of the reasons why I live in NY, owning a firearm is not one of them but since I only started carrying this year at 48, can't just pack up and leave my life. It is an imperfect world, we just try to do the best we can and try to change things for the better.

Time to get out of New York. Having to meet with a judge to exercise our second right in the Bill of Rights is outrageous. I would not continue living in NY and supporting their communist state with your tax money.
Words, just like guns, can be dangerous depending on who is using them and how, but we dont have to meet with a judge for "full" access to our right to speak, but for some reason you have to have a meeting so you can convince another human being that you should be able to protect yourself? Im speechless

Guys - the OP asked a question about the process he can expect. Why does everyone feel the need to chime in on how much NY sucks? I get it that some of those who don't live here hate it, and some of those who do live here hate it. I am not trying to downplay your comments Desert but the constant negativity from those choosing not to be here to exercise their right and try to be part of the solution gets kind of old.

I understand that you are tired of hearing people point out the truth about your state. What I dont understand is why you are choosing to be passive and let your rights fly out the door while just saying, oh well Im 48. But hey, its your life and your (lack of ) rights.

Because I live here I am choosing to be passive? By applying for my CCW and carrying here in NY I have let my rights fly out the door, while just saying oh well I'm 48???!!! Huh???!!! I guess you see things how you see things. I will say again, I understand the problems here. You have a way of taking my words out of context. So everyone that doesn't live exactly as you live is the enemy or wrong? I'm glad I'm not you. You sound like an angry and vindictive man. My apologies if I am incorrect. It's bad enough that I am up at 12:30 am trying to answer an OP that I feel I can help. What's more ridiculous is that you are up (earlier in CO) online throwing mud. Now look what you made me do. I would always shake my head at how these chat rooms sometimes get out of hand and now you have me right there in the thick of things. I guess there's another birthday card I won't be getting. Well, I've had enough fun for one eveninig. Me and my Glock are turning in for the night. We need our beauty rest.

And one more thing. Sorry, I was laying in bed and had to get back up. Desert and anyone who feels like him, how about something like this next time.

"Hey JSGock26, man, I don't know how you do it there in NY. I'm glad I don't live there, but I am also glad that if someone is going to, they do what you are doing. That is, exercising their rights and going through that tough unfair process of acquiring their CCP and carrying your gun proudly. If it ever gets tough and you feel like you are losing the battle and you are alone, shout out to me and I will do my best to give you words of encourgement and try to help you push forward for change and better times".

Would this approach ever cross your mind Desert? Well, I promise, I will hit the sack now.

As a former New Yorker, I'm happy to say that I voted with my feet and left the state... AFTER I got my full carry (in Dutchess County), which I still have because I do have a business address and dealings there. Say what you want if you've never lived there, but you have to love the one good thing about jumping through the hoops: NO RENEWAL, which means you never deal with the process again. :)

But really, if one has never lived there what compels one to keep talking about it as if the opinion really matters? Feel free to jump on some foreign country's forums (some place you've never been, of course) and spout off about how you'd never live there because how they suck so hard... see how positive a reaction will be received there.

Now, *I* can complain about NY all I want... I lived in NYC and elsewhere in NY State... but I don't. Why? BECAUSE I DON'T LIVE THERE! ;)

If one chooses to live in NY (or California, for that matter), they get what they ask for and deserve.

No sympathy from me.

Man, I wake up this morning and this crap is still going on?! Who is asking for sympathy? All I did is try to answer the OP question and look what this has turned into. Now I know why people feel the way they do about some forums. Pax, and your response has what to do with the original question? I went back to read some of my comments on this post and thought I was being respectful and not trying to antagonize anyone. It seemed to only change a bit when others felt the need to give an opinion on things that weren't necessary to the original question. Seems concerning to me that some angry, my way or the highway, insulting toned individuals are walking around carrying guns.

Jeff, let me jump in and straighten out the ignorance.

In NYS we enjoy gun rights that most shall-issue states don't offer. The ignorance arises from the fact that so many people say something so it must be true. Every "shall-issue" state has a legal provision to prohibit criminals, mental defects and violent offenders from obtaining a CCW permit. NY is no different. A denial requires an explanation in writing. People in NY are not being denied arbitrarily. Our permit services show two denials in nearly 1,800 permits through this office alone.

In NY there are no laws prohibiting the carry of a gun in a bar, restuarant, hospital, bank, church, public transportation, etc. The permit is valid for life and requires no renewal. Those states requiring a renewal can simply deny the renewal for cause. There is no requirement to notify LE if you're carrying. The state has a strong self defense provision in the Penal Law (Article 35) allowing one to use deadly force to thwart a burglary. I've seen ONE "no-guns" sign in my life... at an HSBC bank branch.

By living in NY we do get what we ask for. Some of the highest salaries in America are paid in the empire state. The upstate region is a beautiful country setting of small towns and gun-friendly neighbors. Please don't confuse this state with NYC as they have their own gun laws that are not decided by the state legislature.

just saying oh well I'm 48???!!! Huh???!!! I guess you see things how you see things.
but since I only started carrying this year at 48, can't just pack up and leave my life. It is an imperfect world, we just try to do the best we can and try to change things for the better.
AKA, oh well, I'm 48, not gonna worry about it because I got my permit after all.

You sound like an angry and vindictive man.
Not angry. Just sticking up for gun rights. Why would I even care about New York? 1. I go there frequently because I have family there, but the state wont let me defend myself when visiting my family. 2. Its part of my country, and its violating my country's constitution.

And one more thing. Sorry, I was laying in bed and had to get back up. Desert and anyone who feels like him, how about something like this next time.

Like Pax said, you are choosing to live in a state the violates your rights, so no sympathy. Only thing I'll do for you is help motivate you to stick up for your rights and the rights of other fellow law-abiding citizens that want to protect themselves but cant jump through all of the hoops.

AKA, oh well, I'm 48, not gonna worry about it because I got my permit after all
Again, that is your interpretation, similar to how the news can take something and see it how they want to to back up their arguement. You don't know me, my life, my experiences, etc. Who the hell are you to judge me and put your spin on my words?!

Again, no where have I asked for your or anyone elses sympathy. Though I will sleep warm and cozy tonight just knowing that you will help motivate and stick up for me.

As we really know there are many people in the United States in all States, that want all firearm ownership banned.
It is nothing new,and the thought of having to talk to a Judge about why I want/need a CCW permit gives me chills.

Are you forgetting that you called me "angry and vindictive"? Now let me ask you, who the hell are you to judge me???

I come on this site, had experience with the OP question, decided to help him out, and you chimed in and started to voice something that had nothing to do with the question in a negative condescending way and you are surprised I have changed my tone??? I don't think I was out of line based on your accusations. I was just defending myself to an angry and vindictive SOUNDING person. Just matching your tone sir.

Read my post again, there is a difference. Once again, wrong interpretation. I guess that is what they mean by troll when you go onto a thread, have nothing helpful to add to the OP, add negativity and turn the thread into something it wasn't, and then move on to the next battle. I guess you know me being a "New Yorker", I am being unusually kind with my words. Well, I don't wanna play in your sandbox anymore.
