Hi can anyone tell me if correction officers in Ulster county carry on their badge or do they have to apply for a ccw?

Most Peace Officers are not generally exempted from the firearms licensing requirements. Which means that generally peace officers must have firearms licenses to lawfully posses handguns. There are, however,a few exceptions to this some peace officers are by virtue of their designation as peace officers emtitled to posses firearms without a license in much as the same way police officers are. You can read more with regards to peace officers CPL £ 2.20 (1) (h)

I would imagine they carry in a holster. On the badge would be a bit conspicuous.

really? was that post helpful in any way? I have a friend that works for ocj. I think you can carry on your badge, check first.

TrophyHunter is correct. Most peace officers as defined in CPL Article 210 must carry on their own private license under PL A400. This section specifically applies to NYC Firefighters, Westchester corrections, special police of a psych facility, NYS Thruway Authority, Marshalls of a city court (selecte cities), Parole Revocation Specialists, certain county park tangers, ASPCA officers, health inspectors, tax enforcement specialists, etc.

It is my understanding that a corrections officer must apply for a permit to carry outside the job, even when issued a permit for employment. This was communicated to me by Sheriff Dubois in Orange County.
