Turning tides

Scenario: last year, a family member did not want me near her children because she knows I carry. She is on the fence about what she sees as a lack of need to carry. We live in a semi rural town in Nevada and coyotes abound (both 2- and 4-footed variety.) :cray:The children do not know I carry, they know my husband carries.

Update to this year: this same family member has asked me to be the person in charge for supervised visitation for her ex and their children. She says that she doesn't expect any trouble but the fact that I carry should insure that.

The family member told me last night that she's going to speak with a recruiter about joining the Army this morning. I didn't bring up the fact that she'll be learning to shoot her own guns. Why stir the nest? :sarcastic:

I find it quite ironic how her perspective changed with her circumstances! :biggrin:

That's why they say "a Conservative is a Liberal who's been mugged." You don't always need the "Mugging" part, happily, but it's interesting how under "Your" circumstances it's unacceptable to carry but when it's "Mine", it's OK. Case in point: That virulently anti-gun (Democrat?) politician who shot an intruder in his home last year...It's OK for him to be able to protect HIS family but to Hell with the rest of us. The World is run by Hypocrites.

Yes it is! All the politicians who have body guards or those, themselves, who carry, but who don't think that we "peons" have the need...what's up with that? Sux!

What a skewed test! In any case, here are my results. It's somewhat representative of me, on the fence a lot of the time.

I have no test at the present. The reason I think this one is skewed : there are only 2 answers to each "question." There is no "wiggle" room, no room for "other" or "none of the above" or any other answer. Things aren't always so cut and dry, so black and white. All that being said, it still shows me as pretty much "middle of the road," that's where I usually stand anyway. lol

I had the same type of thing happen with a co worker. She didn't fell she need a gun but when she was going to go pick up a fish she bought off Craig's list, she asked if I could go with her. I asked why and she said....

"Well, I don't know these people and I'd feel safer if you were there. You do have your gun right?"

Oh and I'm 90% Conservative and 10% Liberal.....

Yep, the liberal "No Guns" types always change in crisis. They want to tell us we're crazy, they don't want their kids near us, but all of a sudden, something bad happens or they feel threatened..... the first thing they want is a gun or somebody with a gun to protect them.

I have a close friend who is not really a liberal by definition, but he's against concealed carry or carry of any guns. He believes if you want a gun, it should be locked up in a safe and only taken out for target practice at a controlled range environment. You don't need one for protection.

But then...... One day he needed someone with a truck, me, to pick up some items from a business, that he had purchased for his business. That business was deep in the hood in New Orleans, but he didn't realize it until we were already riding down those streets in the hood. With drug dealers on the corner, approaching the vehicle, and hoodlums hanging on the corners, looking as we passed, he was obviously shaken. He said, My God. If I had known it was down here in this area, I never would have bought it. He looked at me and asked. Do you have your gun with you? He didn't realize it, but the grip of the Glock 21 was under my hand, with the gun slightly shoved muzzle first between the seat and the fold down arm rest. I asked, Do you mean this one? I lifted my hand off of the gun to expose it. He said, Thank God, I figured you would have it, but I wasn't sure. I said this one is in easy reach, the Glock 30 under my shirt is in case I need a back up. I kind of laughed, because of all of the years in Law Enforcement, patrolling areas like this was rather common. I was at ease, but vigilant. He was "freaking out." He thought areas like that only existed on TV. :biggrin: Yep, they want total control on guns, until they feel threatened and need one. :sarcastic:
