This is the first video of my new vlog series. My wife was just diagnosed with cardio myopathy. Basically, I am starting to a vlog as a motivational tool for myself to get healthy and get her healthy. We are both overweight and she is a little over 6 months pregnant. I will be doing weekly(if not more frequently) videos to document my progress with diet and exercise, as well as other health issue share how she and the baby are doing. This first video just gives a little insight and backstory and annouces what I will be doing. As soon as my son is born, my wife plans on joining me in exercise(once cleared from cardiologist). She has given up caffeine and is on a pretty rigid, low sodium diet. I am kinda doing it too. I am on a diet( mostly calorie counting, and avoiding junk) just not as rigid as hers. Thanks for watching.

Good for you. I gave up caffeine 11 years ago. Up until then, I was drinking at LEAST a 12 pack of Coke or Dr. Pepper a day, because any less than an even dozen and I'd get awful headaches. I woke up one morning and decided I was just tired of feeling sick and run down all the time, so I gave away the rest of my supply, and other than what's in the little bit of chocolate I eat, I've only had caffeine 4 times in the past 11 years, 3 times by accident, and one Jack & Coke at my cousin's wedding.

Also, my grandpa died when I was 6 from heart disease. When I was old enough to cook my own meals, I stopped cooking with salt altogether. One shaker of salt will easily last me 2-3 years. I used to love salt too, but once your tastes adjust, you learn what food is actually supposed to taste like, and it's pretty amazing what the proper herbs will do. I used to tell my buddy at work "If you want to eat like a king, learn to cook like the king's chef." The key is fresh ingredients whenever possible. Don't used canned stuff unless you don't have any other option. It's really not any harder. After 4 years of marriage my wife is finally catching on to my secret of making good food: the most important tool in your kitchen is your nose.

I don't worry about calories. But I also don't eat breakfast-lunch-dinner either. I eat when I feel hungry. Sometimes that's every couple hours, sometimes that's every couple days. When I worked in an office, I had 3 meals a day and I weighed 20 lbs more than I do now. Since I started working for myself, it's eat when I'm hungry, sleep when I'm tired, drink when I'm thirsty. Most of my chronic pain has gone away and I have more energy than I have since I was a kid.

Sorry this is a bit rambling. I've been trying to teach myself PHP, CSS and Javascript for the past couple days. Brainy no worky.

thanks for the support and the views. I'm wanting so bad to do all fresh ingredients. I will be shopping as such during our next grocery trip. I am going to stay away from processed foods. I wish I could get away with not calorie counting, but I've found while i'm still large, it makes me pay attention to the foods i eat and how much of them i eat. I have been definitely watching my sodium intake. using substitutes like Mrs. Dash has done wonders(South Louisiana, we like our spices )

sounds like a good start keep it up and best wishes losing weight and staying healthy yourself so you can also take care your wife and child too
best to you i should get out more myself and get more exercise

recently, I bought a Jack LaLane juicer and spent 7 days without food and drank nothing but freshly juiced veggies and lost 9 pounds. Not only did I feel better than I ever have but I lost weight.

my recipe was
for veggies,
spinach
kale
ginger
carrots
zucchini
apple

and for a sweet drink during my fast, I mixed apples, pears and ginger

for a sweet drink after the fast, I mixed
strawberries
cantaloupe
pears
mangos
apples
pineapple

so incredibly satisfying!!!

Good on you for your motivation and I wish you nothing but the best!!

i been having an urge for raspberries lately even today i went grocery shopping and bought two flats of them and ate them both
they are sooooooooo good but expensive too at five usd a flat ;( wished they grew down in florida like they did up in pa but we have some delicious mangos here right next door too and i have bananas in my yard when it fruits too it's way better than the chemical injected and processed crap at the store and free too so far
we need to relearn to grow our own locally and freely much more wholesome
healthy and happy are synonymous and sacred rites

I'm gunning for you brother! Just had a thought.....If you'd like to try juicing, it would benefit your whole family without a doubt and I will be happy to help you with recipes and plans. I'd also like to offer to donate to your cause if you want to get a juicer. I bought mine at Best Buy for $100 and if you decide to go for it, I will PayPal you $25 and send you recipes to help you out. If that sounds like something you want to do, let me know and I will help you out.

One of my class mates and her husband are juicing now and they swear by it. My wife likes the idea of trying it out.
Thanks for the support and the recipes.

My wife and I did a 1 week juice fast earlier this year. It is highly recommended, though be warned, around day 4 or 5 you start to... cleanse. It ain't pretty or fun. The guy whose plan we followed actually recommended a minimum of 10 days, but we just couldn't afford that. He also recommended starting back into solid foods slowly. But... me not having any meat for a week was awful. The only other time in my life I've gone that long without some sort of cow or pig was my Sr. year of high school, where I was so sick I could barely keep water down for 6 1/2 days. Lost 25 pounds that week. That is NOT a recommended way to lose weight. :bad:

officially under 300 . 298.8 today. be on the look out for episode 4 this weekend sometime. I'm gonna discuss food journalling
