Good for you. I gave up caffeine 11 years ago. Up until then, I was drinking at LEAST a 12 pack of Coke or Dr. Pepper a day, because any less than an even dozen and I'd get awful headaches. I woke up one morning and decided I was just tired of feeling sick and run down all the time, so I gave away the rest of my supply, and other than what's in the little bit of chocolate I eat, I've only had caffeine 4 times in the past 11 years, 3 times by accident, and one Jack & Coke at my cousin's wedding.
Also, my grandpa died when I was 6 from heart disease. When I was old enough to cook my own meals, I stopped cooking with salt altogether. One shaker of salt will easily last me 2-3 years. I used to love salt too, but once your tastes adjust, you learn what food is actually supposed to taste like, and it's pretty amazing what the proper herbs will do. I used to tell my buddy at work "If you want to eat like a king, learn to cook like the king's chef." The key is fresh ingredients whenever possible. Don't used canned stuff unless you don't have any other option. It's really not any harder. After 4 years of marriage my wife is finally catching on to my secret of making good food: the most important tool in your kitchen is your nose.
I don't worry about calories. But I also don't eat breakfast-lunch-dinner either. I eat when I feel hungry. Sometimes that's every couple hours, sometimes that's every couple days. When I worked in an office, I had 3 meals a day and I weighed 20 lbs more than I do now. Since I started working for myself, it's eat when I'm hungry, sleep when I'm tired, drink when I'm thirsty. Most of my chronic pain has gone away and I have more energy than I have since I was a kid.
Sorry this is a bit rambling. I've been trying to teach myself PHP, CSS and Javascript for the past couple days. Brainy no worky.
