Trying to decide on a good off the shelf AR15

I'm looking to get an AR, it doesn't need to be tricked out or the best, I do want something solid and reliable. I sort of had my heart set on a Colt but I'm open to other things, have been looking at Smith, Bravo, and Rock River. Leaning towards a carbine. Thoughts?

My plan isto get this one and then down the road build a second one (and take my time doing it).

I just got a Rock River on the advice of a list member. Very satisfied with build and features. $999 delivered. The wife has one on the way. Hers will get an Eotech 512 because she wears glasses.

Stag Arms model 8 gas piston.

Can't go wrong with the SW MP AR. A beast at a great price with great service and warranty. Many base models to choose from. Love mine. .223 and 5.56

Armalite, Stag, RR, LaRue, SW, Sig. Oly, lots of prices lots of basics lots of bells and whistles. I would like to buy a S&W, but, I am not throwing any rocks at any of the ones posted. AR=Armalite. .308 is great also, but have yet to jump into this one. Guess it is like asking which .45 acp or .40 S&W to buy.

I too would like to purchase a new AR15 in an M4 profile. Trying to keep it under $1000.
Please opine why you are recommending this model and manufacturer.

Would those offering their opinions kindly include the price paid and approximately how long ago.

Saying you paid $400 for your rifle, without mentioning that it was 1986, isn't much help.

OK thanks everyone for the input. I'm giving Stag more thought now as well. Probably between Stag, S&W, RRA, and Bravo. Unless of course I can find a Colt.

Link Removed Best bang for the buck. IMO

I went with a Bushmaster XM15-E2S Carbine and have had zero issues. Of course I also went old school with the integrated carry handle and old style iron sights too... Not a fan of optics.
