Travelling to NV with handgun from NY

Apologies, I posted this in the "General" thread before I saw this one...so it's kinda a repost :(

Greetings,
I'm Aryn, and though Im a NY resident now, I spend a lot of time working in Nevada. Im a geologist working in Nye County between Tonopah and Ely. My question is this, I normally have a rifle with me in the field, but because it's heavy, I'm considering switching to a handgun (my work involves a lot of hiking in remote areas). There have been some 'incidents' where I work in the desert; recently with another female (I'm a female BTW) being shot in the leg by an unknown assailant, and a couple of run ins with wildlife (Mountain Lions, snakes, coyotes etc...). From what I can tell about the carry laws online a NY, UT, and/or FL permit will not allow me to carry a concealed weapon in NV. I don't really plan to carry the gun on my person except when I'm working out in the desert, mostly BLM land. But I just want to make sure I'm on the up and up when I'm driving. It seems to me, that I might not need a permit at all if I'm not planning to conceal carry into any urban areas, is that right? Thank you very much for any and all advice.
Cheers,
Aryn

You can carry a loaded handgun in your car in the glove-box, center console or under the seat legally in NV. Also, open carry is acceptable, legal and widely practiced especially in remote areas. Unless you prefer to carry your handgun concealed you probably don't need to go through the time or expense of getting a CCW permit.

Plan on waiting 75-120 days after the application is turned in to receive your CCW if you choose that route.

Depending on how long you will be in Nevada. There is one place in Las Vegas that gives the class for free, with(25$ for each other pistol...one revolver covers all revolver. Autos are tested one by one...that change is before our state senate as I send you this) one box of ammo included for free. Since you currently hold 3 other permits. Your turn-around time should be short. The "pain in the butt" part will be getting fingerprinted(think DMV style o lines/love). The areas you are speaking of are rather remote. That's shotgun country so a handgun my not be your best option.

Everything sounds accurate from above except the wait time. For whatever reason, it takes a LONG time to turn around a permit in Nevada. I just got my 3rd renewal (I haven't even had a speeding ticket in the last 5 years) and it took 72 days to get my new permit.

Greetings from Round Mountain. In these parts is is fairly common to see others carrying openly. You can carry a loaded firearm without a permit as long as it is not concealed. You may also have it anywhere inside your vehicle except for on your person. Any LEO around here sees you carrying openly is not even going to think twice about it.

One VERY important point. When flying out on business AVOID NYC AND NJ AIRPORTS LIKE THE PLAGUE! Try to fly from a local airport in NYS. Stewart is a good place to fly from. Check with your airline to get specific instructions for checking your gun. DO NOT walk direclty into the terminal with the gun as th4 dogs may converge on you. Usually ther is a special check-in location outside of the main terminal.

When traveling back east. I used UPS to send my fire arm to me. I arrived at my destination at 9am, UPS was there at 10 am. No funny business and more reliable than the baggage handlers. And for what I paid. It was worth the price not being aggravated and persucuted.
