Traveling from CA., to Idaho

I am new to this site. I'm planning to go to my bothers house in Idaho next month. And becuase Nevada no longer honors neither of my CA, or Utah licences, I have to see if can legaly trasport the gun in my vehicle through Nevada. Has anyone else looked into this issue?

Interstate transport is legal. Unloaded weapon locked in trunk, basically.

When you get to the Nevada state line lose your California carry restrictions. Take your handgun out of the case, load it, and put it under your seat, in the pocket on your door, in the glove compartment, or the console. Just don't conceal it on your person. LOADED open carry is legal in Nevada.

Enjoy your trip.

Not sure where in Kommiefornia  you are coming from but if you are coming through Vegas or Clark county they may view a loaded weapon in a compartment as concealed. It is legal but they often choose to interpret things differently from the rest of humanity. If you are going north out of Winnemucca you will have a short section of Oregon to go through. Put the loaded gun on your dash and you are legal, leave it in a compartment and you will most likely have a lot of trouble. (Its a 55 mph zone all the way through Ore and it is heavily patrolled. Get behind a trucker going 60-65 and you'll be fine.) If you are going north out of Elko you'll be fine.

The post quoted below is known by the technical term BS. The Metro Police in Clark County used to give out a sheet when registering handguns (another topic) explaining carrying loaded guns in a vehicle. It specifically stated that the handgun should not be left in plain sight as it might lead to theft.

And this is not hearsay; I was given a copy of it years ago. I don't believe they still give it out, but the law has improved in the last few years. Boulder City and North Las Vegas had ordinances against a loaded gun in a vehicle. Those ordinances no longer apply and the localities have begrudgingly complied with state law.

So you are going to pay his legal costs if some LEO chooses to follow the illegal unconstitutional ordinance instead of state law?
As to putting the loaded gun on the dash I have specifically been to court over this and if the weapon is on the dash in plain site it is not in any form a concealed weapon. This advise was for the section of Southeastern Oregon that may be encountered on the trip that was described. I am sorry if this was not clear to you. I didn't intend to start an issue with you by quoting your post I only intended to add some additional information that could be relevant in the state of Nevada and the state of Oregon.
If you feel that I am giving out false or misleading information then you are welcome to your opinion, however, my case documents indicate that I do know what I am talking about.
Additionally:" In 2007, Senate Bill 92 established rules for unsafe discharge and concealed weapons. The bill instructed Nevada cities to adopt the regulations by Jan. 1, 2008, but Boulder City didn’t -- and has been in violation ever since." " Some cities such as North Las Vegas and Boulder City have "deadly weapon" laws, and you could be cited or arrested if you pass through their jurisdictions with a firearm in your vehicle."

The following are the ordinances that are contrary to state law.

Boulder City

7-1-3: Discharging Firearms, Air Guns:
No person except a sheriff, constable or police officer shall fire or discharge any firearms or air guns of any description within one thousand (1,000) yards of any building, street, sidewalk, alley, highway or other public place or have any firearms or air gun in his possession within one thousand (1,000) yards of any building, street, sidewalk, alley, highway or public place unless it is unloaded and knocked down or enclosed within a carrying case; provided, that this Section shall not prevent the maintenance and use of duly supervised rifle or pistol ranges or shooting galleries authorized by the City Council. This Section shall not prohibit the stocking of firearms by duly authorized dealers in the same.

North Las Vegas

9.32.080 Deadly weapon prohibited in vehicle--Exceptions.
It is unlawful for any person to have in his possession in any automobile, truck, motorcycle, or any other type of vehicle any dangerous or deadly weapon, but this restriction shall not be deemed to prohibit the carrying of ordinary tools or equipment carried in good faith for uses of honest work, trade or business, or for the purpose of legitimate sport or recreation.

I really don't care enough to continue this any further. I have more to do with my time then argue with someone on the internet.

And I'm closing with this smilie because it made me laugh. :shout:

If I knew what you were talking about I'd try to respond. What 'unconstitutional ordinance' are you referring to?

You specifically mentioned locales in Nevada -- not in Oregon. Sorry you had trouble with bad cops (yes, they are much more common that people wish to believe) but this is a change of subject.

Still not clear -- Oregon, huh?
I've never had a problem carrying a gun in Nevada or Oregon; but to be clear I've not been in Oregon in several years. The last time I told a cop in Nevada I was armed was last February. No problems.

I know those were not repealed or amended, but the authorities have admitted -- publicly -- that they are complying with Nevada State Law.

I wasn't argueing, just correcting misinformation. I really don't feel a need to argue but I'm glad you got a laugh out of it.

You're going to fit in well here.

Traveling with gun to Idaho!!

I'm back. TNX again for the posts. I hope everyone is ok with eachother. :-)
I ended up calling sherriff office in Las Vegas, and she mentioned it is no problem in my car in Vegas, but not on my person. Just maybe in trunk or something, and that I should tell an officer if pulled over. They said their used to it, no problem, just be upfront with police. And she said on my trip to Idaho, I needed to call each cities police to find out their own rules. I figurede since I will be only on the highways, I would just call the NV Highway Patrol Central, and North divisions. They said i'm fine if I don't have concieled on any person, or in glove box. But that open view is ok. I'm not comfy with plain view if police pull me over, so I asked if ok in trunk, or back of van in cubby hole. That's good also. I asked do I need to mention if pulled over, NO unless asked. But obviosly I would if they were going to check through vehicle. Would not want any surprises:fie:
Thnaks for the info. This site is amazing. Glad to be apart now.
