Travel to Chicago

I think I may have found a solution to my planned trip to Chicago and wanted to see if anyone on the forum has any input to it. I plan to stay in Hammond, IN which is about 30 miles from the location of my meetings. I plan to leave my gun in the hotel room on the first day so that I don't have to worry about even having it in IL (I will only be traveling during the day on the day of the workshop, so I am a little more comfortable with this). The hotel has told me that I can leave a "package" in their safe on the day I check out and pick it up on my way home. I have not mentioned what is in my "package".

Am I in any danger of violating any laws if I give them my unloaded firearm in a locked box and leave it in their safe? I would not think so, but if anyone on the forum has any input on this it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Neal

You might go through a headache if the gun gets stolen and is used in a crime, but other than that, no.

Just leave it in the safe in the hotel office, NOT one in your room. Room safes are often broken into. I have left handguns with the front desk on several occasions and told them what it was. Aside from raised eyebrows there was no hassle and I've never had a problem with them finding it to return it. :sarcastic:

Actually, I planned to take the clip with me so that it could not be used in a crime and leave the handgun in the room in my bag.

Neal, I wouldn't recommend ever leaving a gun in your room. It's not safe to leave simple things like jewelery or money in your luggage, let alone a gun. :hang3:
Like the previous poster said, let the front desk lock it in their safe.
Replacement mags are easy for a bg to get, so that won't deter them either.

Man, I have never been in this situation before, but having it locked in a box of its own and then given to the front desk and put in their safe sounds like the best bet to me. I would never trust to leave anything in my room while I was gone. Doesn't Chicago's laws on guns REALLY blow!

Agreed. I would never leave anything of value in a hotel room, ESPECIALLY not a gun.

We rent a house at teh beach each summer for a week. Even when we leave teh house to walk down to the beach, I lock my gun in my vehicle. (Kinda difficult to carry concealed in a bathing suit. And I do like to go in the water!)
