Traffic Tickets To Help Fund Police Pay Raises??

Channel 2 Action News has obtained an email sent to Atlanta police that says traffic ticket money will fund future pay raises. An Atlanta police source told Channel 2’s Amy Napier Viteri there are concerns that linking pay raises to tickets creates an indirect quota system, but the Mayor’s Office and the author of the email insist there’s no push to write more tickets.

They can deny this all they want but everybody knows that police departments across the country employ this revenue tactic. Just look at the money that redlight cameras generate.

Absolute bull sh**!

That is true but redlight camera's don't get pay raise based on the amount of people dumb enough to run a redlight when there are cameras present. The police will be pulling more people over to write tickets because the amount of traffic tickets given out will determine how big a pay raise they will get. That is just plain BS and the police with dignity know that it will give off the wrong image.

States like Illinois who are broke have told their LEOs to raise revenue. So if the Leo wants to protect his job he must write tickets to pay for his keep. It was only a matter of time before the government did this.

Easy fix, don't speed :p
The government has a cure for that too. Lower speed limits until more people are speeding again. Fuel tax revenue drops because people are driving less, or driving more fuel efficient vehicles, get a fuel efficient vehicle tax going. Parking ticket revenue flagging because good samaritans are randomly adding quarters to meters about to expire, prosecute the samaritans for harassing the meter maids. Government itself is the biggest revenue scam ever invented by man.

Maybe the state government will decide this is a tax not a ticket.

The beauty of this is that if you stop breaking the law while driving, you won't have to worry about giving them raises!

Shocking, I know...

But hey let's set aside logic and just keep speeding and running red lights and then complaining about getting tickets!

They're already doing that too. Cant remember which state it was, but I just saw on the news the other day that they're trying add an extra $50 to the annual registration fees for Hybrid owners and an extra $100 for full-electric vehicle owners.

Originally gasoline tax helped pay for roads and repairs. I'm sure its been changed by now. So I can see that cars that don't very much or no gas should shoulder their fair share of the cost of road maintenance.

So if they lower the speed limits, follow the speed limits or accept the ticket.... Seems very straightforward to me.

I used to drive 4 to 5 over the limit knowing its probably ok. Once I started carrying, set the cruise on the limit and keep my neck short. Risk aversion is always good advice when carrying.

Texas DARS is funded by DPS speeding tickets. It is the Texas Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services. Among others, DARS helps people that have spinal cord injuries to pay for rehab. Good thing.
Heck, when my Sons and I were working in the oilfield, we paid our fair share of money into that organization. :o)
