trading a sig 229 for an fn 5.7?

I just saw the 5.7 on top shot, and I am wondering if it would be a good idea to sell the 229 and get the 5.7. Any opinions or experiences would be appreciated!

It's more expensive to shoot a 5.7 vs a 9mm, so if you plan on carrying it and shooting it a lot don't forget to take that into account. Also, most places I've seen don't stock 5.7mm, you have to usually order it.

Looks like a neat gun but like said, its hard to find ammo and more expensive to shoot. I would stick with your Sig I.M.H.O.

Great advice- I did not think about the price of ammo. Over time will cost mire than the pistol. I really do love the 229, I just don't carry it/ shoot it a whole lot.

Take a look at hickok45 on youtube he put a review on it a couple of weeks ago its about 30 min long. I would put the link on here but can't seem to from my phone, maybe someone else can post it. Its a good video and worth taking a look at.

I would not get rid of a 229 for a FN 5.7

The FN 5.7 is a great gun. I picked one up a month ago to go with my P90S. The ammo is not cheap at approximately $22 for a box of 50, and spending quality time at the range with it can be a spendy day. But, the handgun can reach out and hit some long shots with iron sights (100 to200 yards easy) and is very controllable. The gun new runs around $1100 and taking the cost of the gun and ammo into consideration, it's not an inexpensive venture. I would keep the 229 even if you don't shoot it that much, until you've got money to burn.

My very first gun is a Five Seven. It is a great gun. Very accurate, light, and reliable. It is the gun I carry whenever I can carry. Ammo can be expensive if you don't buy it in the right place. I have seen it as low as $18 per box of 50 to $30 for a box of 50. Every once in a while you see someone trying to sell SS192 ammo for $100+ a box of 50 because it was supposedly banned because they are AP rounds. That is crap. That ammo was banned, and is severely overpriced.

You can also reload this round if you are into reloading. That will save the price on the price of ammo. Take a look at Elite Ammunition for some of their products (ammo and reloading supplies for this round). This round isn't as cheap as .22LR or 9mm, but if you search a little you can find the ammo at 36¢ a round. That is about the price of .45 and I believe .40. The $22 a box quote from another poster puts the price at around 44¢ a round which is also around the same price as .45 ammo.

I think once you shoot this gun a few times, you will really like it. Don't know if I would sell a P229, but I would definitely save up money to buy it as another gun.
