3 Hurt In Shooting At Dallas Office Building

A shooting at a 19-story office building in north Dallas on Monday morning left three people injured. The incident happened at the Four Forest Plaza building, located in the 12000 block of Merit Drive, just north of Forest Lane, near Medical City of Dallas.
At a news conference, officials with the Dallas Police Department explained that authorities received a silent 911 call from inside the building and started driving there to investigate. Another 911 call reported shots being fired.
The alleged gunman entered a third floor business that is owned by a 63-year-old father and his 39-year-old son, shooting both. The suspect then retreated into a financial institution when police arrived on the scene. Officers fired shots at the suspect, who then shot himself.
Bette McCardel works at United Texas Bank, one of the building's occupants, and spoke to CBS 11 News over the phone about what she witnessed. According to McCardel, a bank customer had just finished cashing a check. They left the bank, claimed to have seen the shooting and ran back to the bank to warn others. At that point, the bank was locked down. Bank employees were instructed to remain inside until further notice.
The father and son were both transported to Parkland Hospital, one with a gunshot wound to the neck, and are now in stable condition. Meanwhile, the alleged shooter was taken to Baylor Medical Center in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police believe that the shooter knew the victims and targeted them specifically. Since officers were able to arrive on the scene shortly after shots were fired, it is not known if the alleged shooter would have attempted to injure others in the building.
