to whom it may concern:

i am a 75 year old man , i have been carrying and dealing with guns of all kinds since i was 10 years old. i have hunted, bought and sold guns and have held a sellers permit for guns and ammo. when i applied for my concealed carry permit i was denied for lack of education. oh and i also went around to schools with a dnr warden to teach safety to kids. can someone please explain to me why i was turned down and how much education does a person need. thank you disgruntled in wisconsin

All I can say is, I sat through a four-hour class for out-of-state Utah concealed carry and got my permit a few weeks later. I'd go that route.

wow that is unconstitutional and prejudiced as well.....perhaps you should mention great inventors musicians and millionaires to date that haven't graduated jr high school........like albert einstein and the wright brothers for starters......and countless others .......i think you can make a case for yourself and win
best wishes

I can't even begin to imagine why you were denied. Im sorry the system is treating you this way.

After all you have given to your Community, this is the payback you get.

I would consider hiring an Lawyer to look into this matter for you.
Remember Walt Disney was an High School Drop out, and he too was denied the right to carry an Concealed weapon.

Look what he created after he was Told NO!!!

I am also in Wisconsin and while I think it is unfair for them to deny you the law is the law so my best advice is to take a Utah course and get your non resident permit. Best part about that is you can carry in Minnesota as well as many other states.

or come to florida and get a non resident here i don't think they use lack a diploma to judge whether or not you qualify to have a permit
again best wishes but i think you should make a case out of it for certain as it's just ridiculous they deny an old man who probably should carry for personal protection being an easy target for thugs these days............

What kind of education? If they're saying you need to go take a gun safety or CCW class, then go take one. Here in MN, it doesn't matter how long you've been handling guns, you have to have taken a course and passed both a written exam and shooting qualification within 1 year of applying for your permit. Even if you already have a permit and want to renew it, you gotta take another class. It's hoops to jump through for sure, and IMO completely unnecessary for many people. But on the flip side, I've seen a lot of stupid people doing stupid things with guns. Some of them really do need a class in order to carry safely.

Now, if as others are assuming, they denied you because you never graduated high school or something... Then I think you've got a pretty solid lawsuit.

I live in MN, I took my class and didn't have to take a written exam. Just, had to qualify in shooting, sit through the class, and fill out an app. Had my permit in about 2 weeks, what county do you live in that you had to do a written exam?

To be fair... Einstein dropped out of high school to take the entrance exam to a university (Polytechnic Institute in Zurich). He didn't just end his academic pursuits, he launched into them. He didn't pass the first exam... went back to high school for one year, took the university entrance exam again and passed before finishing high school. (there are some reports that the Polytechnic Institute let him in one semester after he failed the first entrance exam since he was 2 years younger than the other students without having to take the exam again). So, calling him someone that didn't graduate high school is somewhat of a misnomer since he did graduate college and ended up a professor (University of Zurich, German University in Prague, the Polytechnic Institute (where he graduated) and finally Princeton).

Does Wisconsin have some sort of appeal process? It's obvious you didn't fit a prescribed "educational level" that some asinine bureaucrats came up with, but it's also obvious you probably have more experience and education in the matter than a lot of Wisconsians. (is that the proper term... "Wisconsians"?)

Something just does not sound right and it may very well be something left out of this original thread. Only saying.

Wisconsin
Training Requirements

  1. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources hunter education certificate
  2. An unrevoked concealed carry license from another state or jurisdiction. You must enclose the Link Removed verifying it is not revoked for cause. The license may be current or expired.
  3. Proof of military, law enforcement, or security firearms training. (details)
  4. Department of Justice Firearm Safety Course certificate (issued by DOJ-certified instructors)
  5. Firearms safety or training certificate from a course taught by a national or state organization that certifies firearms instructors, or by an instructor certified by a national or state organization that certifies firearms instructors, or to the public by a law enforcement agency.

Yes.....I believe the "lack of education" that the OPer speaks of is his failure to take the required safety/training course.

Sure, it's a hoop to jump through, but it's a small hoop. It's the law......and isn't it better to just spend a few hours taking the course and getting a permit rather than to be stubborn and not carry at all (or carry illegally)??

If you are being denied due to not not meeting the mandatory training requirements, I can understand, but if you were denied for your education history, that seems strange.
I know a guy who was friends with the sheriff but he wouldn't approve his permit unless he met the requirements. the sheriff even knew he was a cop for a long time many years ago but still didn't meet the mandatory requirements.

First post, as a Troll....
There is no education level requirement other than taking a gun safety course. Your Honorable mitlitary discharge records can be used as training.
Either Trolling, or there is something else wrong.

No one is being denied because of education level. There must be something else. A common last name or incorrect background check perhaps?
