To back up or upgrade or neither

My EDC is an Ruger SR9C with the 10rd mag in a minotaur mtac iwb holster. i've been thinking about getting a Ruger LCP or Taurus TCP in a pocket holster, but I also recently shot a buddies Springfield Armory XD .40 3" and would love to upgrade to one of the xd or xdm subcompacts as my EDC. I've had the Ruger about a year right about the same time i got my conceal carry license. I can only do one or the other or neither, any advice? I guess I should add, that I don't dislike my Ruger, his xd was just felt more comfortable and the trigger pull was smoother and shorter.

Thanks

I would choose the XDm over the Ruger or Taurus myself. If the XD felt good and you liked the trigger, I would say go for it. You may want to try an trade in the SR9C for the XD, I had a Kahr CW9 and traded it in on an M&P Shield 40. The difference I had to spend to upgrade was minimal and worth it. If the trade in cost is minimal, you may be able to get the Taurus or Ruger as well. There is also nothing wrong with keeping multiple guns and having a choice of what to carry.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking trade in the ruger for an xdm. I've got the upgrade costs covered so that's not a problem and would be pretty close to having enough for the taurus. maybe xmas will come early for me this year . :)

I agree with sig_man. Carry what you feel is the best for you. If you like the feel of the XD and more importantly could shoot it well I would go for it. Personally I carry different guns on different days. I am familiar with all of them, like the feel of them and shoot them well and often. So get what ever blows your whistle, but practice, practice, practice with it. Make it an extension of your arm like it is supposed to be there.

I love my XD-40sc, so I'd go with that (I do suggest the Pierce Grip extenders for the flush mag though). I'm also not sold on the XDm price frankly. A National Match barrel that's only 3.8" long instead of a 3" standard barrel? Ummm, yeah... that's really going to make a difference from 0-21ft. About the only other thing different on it is the grip pattern, and that's just preference (especially if you put something like Talon grips on them anyways).

All this said, I don't think the extra $100-150 is worth it especially given the slightly larger size, but YMMV.

Appreciate the input. I agree actually my 2nd post should have said xd or xdm. As I have only shot the xd .40 3" i would be inclined to move to that or find an xdm and shoot it to see if it just knocked my socks off and was tremendously better than an xd.

I own the Ruger SR9c and it is my EDC firearm in an "Old Faithful IWB holster. I love the quality and don't feel the guns you named are necessarily an upgrade from it. I have shoot all the firearms you have mentioned and still like the SR9 best. That is my opinion and I like how it feels for me. I will say if you liked the feel of the Springfield better, than by all means go that route. Don't think, however, you upgraded to a better firearm, but one that seems better suited to you.

Jim....out.
