I fully agree with you regarding asault rifles. There's absolutely no reason a sane human needs an asault rifle. The name alone tells what is is designed for - asault. For hunting purposes, and even for home protection, there are hundreds of shotguns and rifles available to fill every need without turning to asault rifles. It wouldn't bother me a bit to see them outlawed.

How many people do you know who has filled out the paperwork, paid the tax stamp, and bought a $25,000 rifle? None? I don't see why assault rifles are a problem then if you know NO ONE that owns one.

Most of the suggestions you are making are already law. I may be wrong but it's illegal to hunt with more than a five round magazine in a semi-auto. Creating more laws when we refuse to enforce the current ones is pointless in my opinion. What we need is a law that states for every new law we enact an old law we no longer enforce be removed.

You both are not true proponents of the second amendment. The second amendment was designed to allow the citizens to protect from a tyrannical government. It was originally designed to apply to military grade and better weapons. Remember it was 1776 and the US were using Kentucky Long rifles against the British Brown Bess. Who won that one?

Second, An assault rifle is a device designed for fully automatic fire. They are already highly regulated and too expensive for criminals
To afford. You're referring to military style weapons. Which by the way are used in 3gun competitions as well as long range precision competition, and hunting. They can just by course of design accept a 30 round and greater magazine; which by the way is useful in some of the aforementioned activities.

Third, you're blaming the tool for the person. You will NEVER stop evil no matter what oppressive "common sense" you impart. If you saw a person sell a rifle to a 14 year old then it's your duty as a gun owner to report him, as that's already illegal.

Any law abiding citizen will use any firearm or firearm related product legally and not harm a soul. Evil people will use whatever tool they have to do evil. This is evidenced when 3000+ were killed 9/11/2001 by box cutter wielding terrorists.

Its attitudes like yours that push the progressive liberal agenda to rid the US of guns. Remember Obama said its not AKs killing kids but "cheap handguns". So keep agreeing to their BS and have fun living a life without the ability to protect yourself.

Let me finish and be the first to say thanks for trampling on our rights.

To the op. There is no such thing as an assault rifle. However if you get yor facts straight you would know that the shooter used two handguns and left the semi auto rifle in the car. A gun is NOT deadly the person using said gun is the deadly part of the equation. Also I wish people would stop say an "assault rifel" is a fully auto weapon IT IS NOT. An ar15 is a civilian firearm semi automatic. My mom was a teacher for 36 years in inner city schools and I wish they would allow teachers to ccw. They have no way of protecting themselves or the children they teach. Before you go on about gun control get you facts correct. Guns save lives.

I agree, wish I could afford one. A review of a few sites looking for a .22 LR for my grandkids, I was amazed at the prices now for the simple Ruger 10-22. I certainly would not wish to be on the wrong end of a Marlin tubular fed .22 LR for that matter. It has never been about the dreaded gun it is about sin, sickness and just plain bad people. As stated here the 911 hijackers all their terror, death and carnage with box cutters. Mexico has a horrible problem and as we all know they shall/will/do buy weapons wherever they are available. Not going to curb sick criminal actions. But, I am preaching to the choir.

I don't agree with this post at all. You're operating based upon the assumption that the Second Amendment was written in order to protect our need to hunt and it in no way reflects that. I own an AR-15 and I am no more a threat to any law abiding citizen out there than you are with your bolt action hunting rifle. The Second Amendment exists so that we may resist tyranny if needed and while an AR-15 isn't going to hold up very much against a tyrannical government it will at least give me a fighting chance should it ever come to that.

Doesn't the national firearms act already ban assault weapons?

If by "assault weapons" you mean fully automatic weapons the answer is no. You are still able to purchase such weapons but you must pay a fee to the ATF and the weapon must in turn be registered. You must also undergo an intense background check and fill out a great deal of paperwork. ZERO of the weapons involved in the recent publicized shootings have been automatic weapons despite what the media and many other less informed would lead you to believe.

None of the recent shootings would have been avoided using op ideas. They were all purchased legally or stolen after a murder was committed.

I'm flabbergasted that I'm reading this on a gun board. Troll maybe? Don't know, don't care....but if this is your mind-set, I recommend you turn in all your firearms to your local authorities & go do interviews with MSNBC/CNN/ABC/ etc etc about how you got out of the "evil gun cult". They love stories like that. You are certainly using the same language that the Left & the Media have used for YEARS to erode our gun rights....and yes, they have been eroded significantly in my lifetime (I'm 64). They keep nickle & dimeing the 2nd Amendment to death with "common sense gun regulations" (their words, not mine). Bull-Squeeze.

You may not call it gun control, but it certainly is. Gun control is not about guns, it's about CONTROL.

Just my humble opinion, but I don't think you belong here......
'Nuf said.

If people are going to blame "guns" for this horiffic crime, then they should start blaming "cars" for all the traffic deaths in this country every year. Besides the fact that these guns were purchased properly and owned the killers Mom.

None of the Op's 5 suggestions would have saved one life at the Connecticut school. An AR-15 is not an "assault rifle" it is the civilian version of one and lacks automatic fire. He didn't buy the weapons at a flea market he stole them from his mother and killed her too. The perp at the Denver movie theater bought his rifle legally not from a flea market. In Kansas you can't hunt deer with a .223 so I don't have a lot of interest in one but other people do for smaller game, sport shooting or tournaments. Switzerland has weapons in every house and no mass killings. Face it the problem isn't the guns it's the Americans. We need to do a better job of identifying people who need psychiatric help and getting it for them before they climb church towers and start dinging civilians.
