Thoughts on a 2nd handgun

I had issues with my LC9 that although it has been repaired, I am not yet 100% confident the problem has been resolved; and the only way I will know is by continually testing the crap out of it at the range but I am trying to be optimistic as it has performed well so far with 100 rounds through it since the repair.

But I am itching for a 2nd gun and the S&W M&P 9mm (full size) has caught my eye. The issue I am having is I want to carry a piece that I can rely on 100% and until I feel that way with my LC9, I ask the following:

1. Would you buy another gun similar in size as the LC9/Shield for ease of carry and have two?
2. Buy the M&P and carry it?

I would:
Trade in or sell the LC9
Buy the Shield
Buy the M&P Full Size

1. if you cannot trust a gun to work properly every time no matter what you cannot carry it and depend upon it to protect you. do you really want to put your life in danger because of a malfunctioning weapon?
if you cannot depend on the gun GET RID OF IT!
2. it is always wise to have a 2nd gun available in case your #1 gun needs repairs. gets used and confiscated or any number of other reasons. you'll find that many people have large numbers of weapons in their carry rotation

Anything that will cause you to hesitate in a situation where your life is on the line is a detriment. At this point, your LC9, even though it is a dependable gun has given you doubts. You have a psychological hurdle to overcome now when/if you need to use it. At this point, in my opinion, it is a liability for you, only.

For this reason, I would sell/trade it and get the firearms you have been long considering getting anyway. Good luck hogwylde.

I don't think a full size should be carried as CC at all. It's really uncomfortable and hard to conceal a full size pistol. Stick with compact or sub compact for carrying. If your having trouble trusting the Ruger then get rid of it.
I'm a real big fan of Kahr!!!
I have a CW45 and my dad has a PM45.

I carry a full size RIA 1911 in 38 super everyday now. I rarely if ever carry my Gov't Colt .380. I live in S. Fl.

Yea. A 1911 single stack is the only exception to that.
My uncle plans to CC a glock 17.
That thing is like trying to hide a brick in you pants.
But it's my preference. I would definitely regret purchasing a full size with the intent to carry it.

Depending on your financial postion, i would buy the M&P and another carry gun, because you can never have too many guns in my opinion. However, if you're not in a position to do that, and you dont trust the LC9, then i would trade the LC9 for another carry piece (whatever you like thats compareable) and get the M&P.

is that so???

do yourself a favor and stop making these foolish proclamations.
I've been carrying full sized pistols for many years with zero comfort issues. if anyone cannot carry comfortably it usually is because of a poor selection of holsters and belts

I'm not sure if you know this. But this is a forum and its full of peoples personal opinions and preferences.

That is just mine.

I think it's just as foolish to carry a pistol with a dble stack mag.
If it takes more than 5 rnds to get the job done then I think you should visit the range more.

Maybe to you its foolish, but people give advice based on their experiences and their own research. In today's world, criminals and "bad guys" often work in pairs or groups, so if you're being attacked by multiple people there are a couple things to consider.

1) it will be a high stress situation, so you may miss a couple shots. Training helps minimize that, but people have busy lives and families so they may not be able to train as much as they would like.

2) if being attacked by multiple people, you might need more than 5 shots to eliminate the threat.

Bottom line is, to combat the threat in today's world, you need to be prepared for a sizeable range of situations, and think outside the box. Narrow thinking like "I only need 5 rounds to solve any problem" is quite frankly not good, and as someone who has taken on the responsibility of owning and carrying firearms, you should be more open in my opinion.

^I completely understand that.

But like I said. It's all based on personal preference.
Actually my .45 holds 6+1
I feel that would be sufficient to resolve a situation or give me enough time to get to good cover and reload.

Fair enough, that's what each person needs to decide for themselves.

It's all a WHAT IF game and what it comes down to is the person to decide how prepared they want to be.

A what if for me, if I was confronted by multiple BGs and they already had the jump on me. I would probably comply until I felt it was kill or be killed.
There isn't much of a chance against those odds.

But it's all a what if game.

Maybe.
But I have had extensive training in situation awareness, nonlethal, lethal, and firearms.
That's a benefit of serving your country!

I also carry a cw45, but I purchased a 7 round magazine that only adds a 1/2 inch to the grip. This gives me the same # of rounds as a single stack 1911 with the same concealment.
