I've never been a fan of really small guns... Hard to handle really well & control, especially under pressure in a panic situation... In the summer I carry a compact (M&P not sub) 40S&W or the Colt Officer's ACP... I've been through the Front Sight 4Day Defensive handgun course with it and was able to effectively draw and handle it for personal defense... The rest of the year the weather here allows me to carry a full size pistol (or close to it) so I do.. 45ACP as I'm not really a fan of small calibers either... There are a collection of really good videos on YouTube done by a user TNOUTDOORS9 that show bullet expansion. He does a pretty good job...

I'm a big fan of tnoutdoors9, really like his stuff. Small guns take extra practice to be proficient with them..... damn things.

I'd take a small J frame S&W 38Spec +P and that's about it... I was able to shoot a friends Khar CM9 enough and was pleasantly surprised but it's not really a tiny gun. Accurate and good handling though. I have to really put a 'potential" small gun to task to make a decision...

I've been very pleased with my TCP .380, it's not too small I can't grip it well, it's as accurate as it needs to be, and it's reliable(after a break-in period).

I think one of those really little .22s would just be fun to play around with out back.

I keep toying with the idea of getting the CM9 as a summer carry perhaps. Then I go back to the possibility of a J frame revolver... I like the 9mm or 38Spec+P over the .380acp (not trying to start a caliber brawl)...

An old friend of mine had a 2 shot Derringer in .25acp caliber... What a handful... a .22LR would be fun I agree...

Now we know what to have in case we are attacked by water jugs wearing denim. These experiments are fun to do but in real life there are many variables that come into play. I wonder what the results would have been with a short barrel .45 ACP? I would take a .32 or even a .22 over no gun at all. About a year ago a local homeowner fought off three home invaders with a .22. Two of them are now in the spirit world. One died at the scene, one died while escaping but managed to make it to the getaway car and the third escaped uninjured but was caught when he drove his unconscious buddy to the ER. The .22 doesn't get much respect but it will still do the job if you do your part.

Haha, b/c you never know. Agreed, I'd feel a lot better with a .32acp over a .22lr but if I hit what I'm aiming at the bullets will take care of the rest.
