Law Enforcement gets a lot of bad publicity, this is what a real Constitutional Sherriff’s Deputy looks like.

From what I've seen, most sheriffs are squarely in our side. There are always a few exceptions, but more of them support us than are against us.

Don't forget, in many states the state police were implemented as either an extension of, or intended to supplement, the military. They tend to have a different outlook than the sheriffs.

The guy who posted this video on YouTube (Nicholas Somberg) is very active in the push to normalize OC in his area (Oakland County, Michigan). As such, he has encountered deputies from the same agency that didn't exactly give him the same warm and fuzzies as the Brother-Deputy in the OP. The reason the cameras started rolling in the OP video is because just a week prior an incident with another Deputy found him being threatened with deadly force for carrying his rifle and a Gadsden Flag in the exact same manner he was in the OP video, and he was anticipating documenting a similar incident here. The week before, his demonstration was on the county (or maybe city) easement right in front of his own home. This encounter came pretty close (it seems to me) to going sideways. Check it out here. But Mr. Somberg has an even more troubling video on his channel I think. Shortly after the very positive encounter with LE he had in the OP, he was interviewed on the local Fox affiliate about the other encounter that almost blew up, and the "opponent" he was debating was the owner of a gun store who, one might logically presume, would be a supporter rather than an opponent. Well, y'all decide. I advise you to watch the link above of the whole incident before watching the following video, because I think you'll notice a little "creative" repositioning of the audio for dramatic effect with the video in the Fox piece. Anyway, here's the Fox debate:

A couple of thoughts about the incident video (linked, but not embedded, above):

I do think Mr. Somberg was carrying his rifle in an inappropriate manner. It was pointed more like 45° to 55° downward instead of the straight down that he claimed. He was sweeping traffic, and would have swept the Deputy if he had rotated around to face him, so the Deputy had a point on that score. However, while it did represent a valid safety concern, it did not in any way amount to a willful brandishing or threat, so the cop pulling his weapon was wholly inappropriate. All the cop had to do is drive up, say hey, and ask Somberg to readjust the way he had the rifle slung and then drive away. It was quite obvious that Somberg wasn't intending to hurt anyone and only wanted to demonstrate peaceably basically in his own front yard.

He would have much more credibility with his viewing public, the cops and any potential court appearances where the video(s) might be played, if he hadn't attempted to make the words "Sir" and "scumbag" interchangeable, and otherwise kept his language to only that which would be welcomed in mixed company. I heard where he addressed the first cop as "Sir" in either the same, or close to the same breath that he called him a "liar" and was busy just basically ranting with no focus on the law that might have resonated with the Sargent if he wasn't name-calling most of the time.

I'm sure some around here will relate more to the anti-OC gun store owner than Mr. Somberg. There always are some. While I think Somberg could've both carried in a safer manner, and just plain displayed better manners, the whole scene was completely unnecessary, and only happened because some cop who jumped at the chance to throw his weight around did just that. Unfortunately, Deputy Buhl (the good guy in the OP) is a lowly Deputy, while the guy in the prior incident is his superior, a Sargent. Sarge could (and should) learn a lot from Buhl.

It is extremely important that we elect constitutional sheriffs. In most states the sheriff is the only person with police powers who is elected by the voters and responsible to the voters. City police chiefs are appointed and responsible to the mayor and council. State police officers are even further removed from responsibility to voters and are usually responsible to the governor and attorney general. And state police organizations are usually the most militarized and most likely to be authoritarIan in their attitude and action. If we desire to maintain our liberty, we must exercise maximum control over the only elected individuals with police powers. We must start somewhere; and Washington is lost cause.

The Fox video certainly put some things in perspective. I have to agree the rifle muzzle was not safely managed. I hope he is more cautious in the future, and refrains from the profanity. The cop could have killed this kid. This is how being stupid with open carry results in tragedies. I'd be pissed-off too if someone swept me with any firearm, but the cop could have cooled the terrier mode a bit.
