A new study has recently emerged that demonstrates what gun rights advocates have long contended: more guns equal less crime. The study also blows holes in the myths surrounding those that carry firearms, proving that as a whole, the group is extremely law-abiding and safe.

Admittedly, to many, the concept sounds counter-intuitive. However, with a skyrocketing increase in the number of Americans carrying concealed weapons in recent years, the study by the Crime Prevention Research Center shows a spike in concealed carry permits that coincides with a significant drop in homicide rates.

The exhaustive study details the rise in permits and Americans carrying concealed firearms and notes that currently 11.1 million Americans are exercising their right to carry a concealed weapon, which is a dramatic increase from 4.5 million in 2007. During this same period, as the number of concealed carry permit holders jumped 146 percent, homicide and violent crimes dropped 22 percent.

While many Americans might find the news startling that so many around them are armed, the study notes the incredibly small rate of law-breaking amongst permit holders. In states with very lax permit requirements like Florida and Texas, the violation rates remain a fraction of a percentage point.

In Florida, for example, the revocation rate of permit holders for infractions from 1987 to the end of May 2013, 168 had their permits revoked for firearm-related offenses out of the 2.64 million people who have permits- that’s roughly 0.006%.

No, the study does not prove more guns and more permit holders equals less crime. Correlation does not necessarily mean causation. Other factors also come into play in the lowering crime stats.

However, what this, and other studies, do prove is that the increase in gun ownership and the increase in permit holders does not result in blood in the streets, shootouts on every streetcorner, road-rage turning into armed mayhem, and overall chaos and destruction. That, you can stuff down the antis' throats!!!!

The anti's do try to say that CC and/or OC has NOTHING to do with the crime stats declining. I don't know if more people having guns has the stats declining or not. But I do know that it has only been places that ban guns where the nut-cases do the mass shooting. That should tell everyone something.

But the real test could be Chicago. If the shootings go down when more people get their permits then that could mean a lot. IL has been trying to deny people their permits in some places. Namely the Chicago area.

Perhaps the anti's there know that if a lot of people get their permits that the shootings will go down and prove our point!!!!

What's the point of a permit system if it only stops .006% ? It doesn't, permit systems are stupid. Its a physical representation of the PEOPLE willingly giving up their rights for the privilege the government allows them to have.

A lot of it has to do with the bureaucrats knowing that a permit system is profitable to them. That's why Nevada stopped recognizing Utah's permit, because they wanted more Nevadans to pay for theirs.

I think that's all of it...politicians know the People will pay the $50-$400 process in hopes of not risking having the tyrannical regime come down on them....easy money...easy people.

It's also a case of the same politicians compromising with and in some cases collaborating with the Progressives who want to ban all guns (or religion or speech, etc.). "Conservative" politicians and even some pro-gun groups seem to have adopted a policy of appeasement with these people... "let's give in a little , maybe agree to a permit or a mandatory training class and they'll leave us alone.". The problem is there is no compromise from the Progressives... no matter what you give they will want more until they have their way completely. One day you wake up and realize that you have compromised away all of your rights, bit by bit.
