or went to prison, got sued, etc, for his incompetance? OKC recently had a guy go to prison for tacking a would be robber's head to the floor, and I know for a fact that such was/is not a unique case, either. Zimmerman's not enjoying life much right now, either. 
funny how it's so hard to take a gun from a guy, yet he wound up grappling for control of it. you can bet your life that such things happen all the time, and Zimmerman KNEW that he was confronting somebody. With a civilian defender,being surprised by the attack is the norm, not the exception.
