The war on ammunition
Ask any gun owner about the war on ammunition and you will get an earful. Ammo has become a scarce commodity in some locales. It flies off the shelves of gun shops and sporting goods stores, often within hours of delivery. At gun shows it is usually overpriced, sometimes selling for double its value, if not more. While demand for ammunition has certainly increased lately, that does not fully account for the scarcity. Instead, the lack of ample ammo is by design and due to multiple reasons, and ammo will become even more difficult to obtain if the anti-gunners get their way.
DHS bulk ammo buys
In a story that broke last year by Infowars.com, and has since then been continuously updated and verified by numerous other sources, it was revealed that the Department of Homeland Security has placed orders for nearly 2 billion rounds of ammunition. The orders, which can be found on fedbizopps.gov, are spaced out over the next five years and are for hundreds of millions upon millions of .40, 9mm and .223 rounds, along with a wide variety of other calibers. These massive orders by DHS have served to keep manufacturers busy working at max capacity, laying claim to all their production and leaving little, if any, for the general public. In fact, subsequent DHS surveys of manufacturers production capacity levels have led to even more orders, effectively snatching up anything that comes available. On a good note, there is currently legislation in Congress that would limit DHS ammo purchases in the future.
