These tests are impressive! .22Lr in Sim-Test gel!

I am impressed with these .22lr rounds! Perhaps these tests can give some data points to people doubting what a .22lr "could" do as a CCW?

No one has ever doubted that a 22LR HP Stinger can hurt and possibly kill if location is correct. Your test was with a rifle and not a CCW, which, in and of itself, is self-defeating in your analysis. Larger calibre firearms, and higher velocities for pistols is the real great equalizer in definitely stopping a threat. Your test confirms what an FN5.7x28 pistol is all about. Same calibre as a 22 (actually 224) but the velocity can be a staggering 2100-2400 fps depending on ammunition and this is not from a rifle, it is from a pistol. I seriously doubt that the Stinger, if matched against the 38 and above, will fail to exceed the results of your gel test; a tumbling special defense 5.7 with an incredible velocity and delivery "punch" will also confirm this. Bottom line, IMHO, if you have a choice, any 22 is better than a rock, a 22 Stinger is better than a 22LR and the higher calibres or specialty high velocity pistols are even better. Intersting gel test and I thank you for the video.

You are correct about it not representing a CCW appropriately, so here's a pistol test.

I do not advocate the use of a .22lr for CCW, but this gives simple data points for consideration. Just data points.

I find all too often people put more faith in the expansion and penetration expectations of the carry loads and a lot less consideration in what really matters..... SHOT PLACEMENT.

Without proper shot placement, the expansion ability of a .45 is useless. So, with that said... practice, and being comfortable and proficiant with your chossen weapon is THE deciding factor.

These tests only go to show the potential of small calibers like the .22lr, of which is extremely cheap! So I get to practice every week, shooting thousands of rounds. I'll take that any day.

Cheers

I have carried a 22magnum or a 22LR for many years. The fact that my wife has arthritus in her hands means she really cant handle anything but a 22LR. The fact is more than 92% of the time when a gun is drawn by the would be victim, the assailant leaves. In almost all of the rest of the cases once the assailant gets shot even once with anything, thats the end of the attack. There are many on this site that claim nothing less than caliber XYZX will do and take the view that bigger is always better. Not true. The 22LR in your hand is better than the XYZX gun that you cant master or left at home.

Gunnerbob - do you perchance have videos of tests for .410 shotguns and .22 Mag? I have been impressed by your test videos and would like to see your take on these rounds.

The caliber of ammo does not matter if you can't his your target. The larger the rock the more likely it is to do more damage when it hits the target, but you have to be able to hit that target. The smaller caliber the more accurate you must be.

There are many people on this site who equate 'bigger is better' but if you cant master the bigger one what good is it? Gunnerbob I also would very much like it if you would show a video of 22 magnum and 410 bore shotgun. I have a 410 bore shotgun and have read many places how lethal it is. Yet most people on this site adhere to the false notion that only a 12 gauge will suffice. If you could post how well a 410 works it might change the idea that 'bigger is always better'.

As I replied in previous post, that is a major reason I purchased an FN 5.7X28 pistol. Every facet of its ballistics says lethality but a 5.7 is essentially a 22 in diameter and the pistol, for all its lethality and accuracy and long range stability has an exceptionally low recoil. It is a big pistol so it probably is not for the wife and small hands but for me--boy is it fun to shoot.

Considering that rimfires are about five times more likely than a certerfire to have a misfire or other failure I'd never consider one for self defense. The last thing you want is for it to go click when your life depends on it going bang...

I do not own these videos, I will suggest for tnoutdoors to do a .410 video. He is usually pretty good about testing what is suggested.
