The World' Largest Army

The World's largest army... America 's hunters!

I had never thought about this.... A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:

There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin. Allow me to restate that number.

Over the last several months, Wisconsin 's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world.

More men under arms than in Iran. More than in France and Germany combined.

These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed.

That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters, All of whom have now returned home.

Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that

The hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

The point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting-- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed.

Food for thought when next we consider gun control. You want my What ?

Army Size

I have read that there are an estimated 80,000,000 armed households in this country, If we presume two shooters in each household that is 160 million people under arms. In the American Revolution it has been estimated that only 3% of the populous took up arms, Using those same figures (grantedly leaving a lot to presumtion) it is possible that the citizen army could field close to 4.8 million really annoyed riflemen and women if a foreign force tried to enter the United States.

And those blue beanies make such lovely targets...

That was a great post. I never thought about it like that.Add 700,000 for New York State. Imagine if we could gather all the hunters in the US and convine on Washington DC to Remind our Government of our 2nd. Amendment Rights We The People, For The People

Has a United States President ever thought of that in our history? During both world wars was it in the back of the President's mind? If we're invaded, we still have an army of citizens.

Have the powerful anti-gun forces throughout the world ever thought of the mass amount of fire power American citizens could bring to bear in a moments notice? Would we? Would we mass in small groups ala Red Dawn? Or would we scatter like sheep caring only for our own?

A good topic for the poker game tonight. Thank you.

Don`t forget Idaho, there are many thousands of people here that hunt or own many guns. Im not a hunter, but i own many guns and im still buying more.

+1.
I don't hunt, but I got your back in Ohio.

I will never support the so called "sportsman's exception " to gun control. That's what pissed me off about the ATF shotgun study. I don't want a hunting gun, I want a gun that makes the neighborhood think twice about breaking into my house. Besides, my wife is vegetarian. No Bambi steaks at El casa XG.

When in the Army let's just say I knew all about the Soviet Threat and one thing we found out was the Russians said they would not have a ground attack on America due to the fact that they are Hill Billies and they all have guns.

Another threat that is always been there thanks to Klinton is the UN wants to have a gun ban in the USA as we are the only free nation with a lax gun control.

To address the DeadScott post, I think in order for massive invasion to occur we have to lose a huge majority of both naval and air capabilities first. I have never seen the movie so im not sure exactly what you had in mind but I imagine in that scenario of no army assistance the towns would assemble large posses with LEO and veterans leading the way.

No nation would have the huge brass balls needed to come here. (Unless the Chinese get pissed when we say sorry bout your luck on that 20 trillion debt we owe you.)

The Chinese have the worlds largest standing army numbering 200 million, another 100 million in reserve.

You give them all Chinese AK-47s and extra mags they would be rock n rollin' over anyone. They play a crucial part in the Korean War and in Vietnam, it would not be their first rodeo.

Where are you getting those figures? They have 4.6 million counting active/reserved/deployed. Counting civilians, the numbers are way higher, but those civilians have nil familiarity with firearms and you can kill them in droves while theyre crossing an ocean with our navy.

We should be very concerned about them building up their navy and those carrier killer missles they designed. Sounds like an invasion plan in the making to me.

I've been hearing this figure on different news outlets as of late. Those are the latest numbers that China is boasting. Wish I had more, next report I'll write it down.

China's population has increased to 1.37 billion, including 1.3397 billion on the mainland, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Thursday.

The new population figure for the Chinese mainland was 73.9 million more than that of 2000, when China conducted its fifth national census, according to data from the sixth census released by the NBS.

The census data shows an annual average population growth of 0.57 percent over the past decade (2000-2010) on the Chinese mainland, slower than the growth rate of 1.07 percent from 1990 to 2000, said Ma Jiantang, director of the NBS.

"The rate indicated the momentum of fast growth in our population has been controlled effectively thanks to the family planning policy," Ma said, adding: "This has eased the pressure on resources and the environment and laid a relatively good foundation for steady and rapid economic and social development in China."

When asked about China's family planning policy that started in 1980, Ma said China had made great achievements in family planning work by effectively controlling excessive population growth.

"But we also need to pay close attention to the new changes of our population structure, adhering to the family planning policy while cautiously and gradually improving the policy to promote more balanced population growth in the country," Ma said.

He described the upward aging population trend, an expanding floating population and the high boy-to-girl sex ratio among newborns as three major challenges China faced last decade.

According to the census, males accounted for 51.27 percent of the total population on the mainland, while females made up 48.73 percent. But the male-to-female ratio among the newborns was 118.06 for every 100 girl infants, higher than 116.86 in 2000.

"The gender ratio of 118.06 was still beyond the normal range and we must attach great attention to this problem and take more effective measures to promote sex equality in terms of employment and salary, while caring more for girls," he said.

China's mainland population living in urban areas totaled 665.57 million, or 49.68 percent of the total, up by 13.46 percentage points on the 2000 figure, while the population categorized as rural population stood at 674.15 million, said the bureau.

"Judging from the migration data, our economy has boosted its vitality over the past decade, as more people were migrating from the inland and western regions to the economically developed eastern coastal areas," Ma said.

According to the NBS, the proportion of permanent residents living in the eastern mainland regions rose by 2.41 percentage points over the last decade to 37.98 percent, while less people were living in the central, western and northeastern parts.

The falling birth rate and increasing floating population of migrant workers led to a declining number of 3.1 persons for each core household on average on the mainland, compared with 3.44 persons in 2000, according to the census data.

Also, the proportion of Han Chinese residing on the mainland had dropped to 91.51 percent, or 0.08 percentage points lower than that in 2000.

The census data shows the growth rate of the aging population on China's mainland had increased with people aged 60 or above accounting for 13.26 percent, while juniors aged below 14 made up 16.6 of the total.

The census data also shows that the illiteracy ratio on the mainland declined to 4.08 percent in 2010 from 6.72 percent in 2000.

To break down the census data by regions, Guangdong, Shandong, Henan, Sichuan and Jiangsu provinces were the top five largest populated regions on China's mainland.

As the world's most populous country, China launched its month-long sixth national population census on its mainland from Nov. 1 last year, mobilizing more than six million census takers to go door to door and visit over 400 million households across the country.

Statistics on the population in China's Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan were provided by authorities in those regions in 2000. (Xinhua News April 28, 2011)

There are indeed a lot of hunters ... but that's not an army. It's just a lot of guys with a rifle. I don't mean to be the party pooper here but there's a reason soldiers do some training (say infantry tactics, shoot and move).

I would agree that those folks would be hugely inconvenient if they wanted to be.

I cannot see that there would ever be a direct ground war against the US, way to many weapons in peoples hands, invading armys know this, thats why they would have to get though our army, air force, navy, and marines first
