The Micro Guns

I like the LCR too. Carry both the LCR and LCP but do try the spring change. Even my 12 year old loves to shoot it now. How can you go wrong with $18.00! Dont let your wife shoot it or you will loose it:no:

He has decided to go with the Taurus TCP... Reasons; slide locks back after last shot, affordability, and feel. It comes in three flavors; blued, stainless and titanium. He is opting for the stainless model which runs about $300.

Tcp

Just finished the new edition of American Rifleman and they reviewed 9 of the "new" 380 pistols. The TCP had fewer malfunctions than any reviewed except the Rohrbaugh $$$.

"the TCP stuttered only twice in the course of a hundred rounds or so"

Yup, TCP won that contest. :pleasantry:
I wish he could have gotten ahold of a Diamondback DB380 to include in his tests/comparisons though and compared all ten .380s

I was just reading the article on the Makarov in Blue Press. I'd agree the 9x18 is a bit more cartridge, and I understand Cor Bon makes ammo for it now. Past experience is that a friend's Makarov with soft Pearce grips, is much more comfortable to shoot than my German made Pre-68 PPK .380 pistol.

I, too, like my PPK. But light is light.

I'm wondering: Suppose there was a fairly big lady (42G bra size) who had a habit of tucking little things like cell phone, folding knife, SureFire light, etc. into her bra. Would she be able to tuck a P3AT or LCP in there?

Super light and super tiny is great for super deep concealment of a backup gun. I'm not nearly so obsessed with extreme light weight in a primary piece. (BTW, the lady I mentioned carries the 4" Model 66 that used to be her duty weapon in a gun purse and she's happy with that.)

Probably could ... but
Google "Bra Holster" for photos and info of bra holsters that might be more comfortable though.

How ambidextrous are these Micro's? I'm a lefty. The Ruger looks about as amby as I need, but I can't get Taurus website to load so I can't see it. The Sig doesn't look like it would work for me from the online pics I've seen of it.

IF he has the $$$, I'd also have him check out the Sig P238.. It is a copy of the old Colt Mustang..

It is a little bigger than the P-3AT, which actually makes it fit the hand better, but will still fit in a pocket fine.
It is costlier, but well made and based mostly somewhat on the 1911 design.. It has a slide lock, real sights on it, a half cock, safety lever - no polymer..
My wife has one, and she loves it..

My only issue with the Sig is the size. I was looking at one in a local gun shop and the clerk said "let me show you something." He then laid a Kahr PM9 on top of the Sig. The Kahr was no bigger except the slide was a little longer behind the grip (striker area). So, basically in the same package you can get a 9mm instead of a .380.

That said you can certainly do a lot worse - a lot of people like the Bersa .380s and they are huge for a .380. I don't know if anyone makes a 9mm this size besides Kahr and Rohrbaugh (which cost a small fortune).

Personally I like the LCP but have two friends who really like the Kel-Tec. The Taurus may be a fine weapon but to me it is still too new.

Interesting that you brought up the Diamondback DB380!! That is what he finally went with. The salesman talked him into it... It is made in America... looks, operates and strips just like a Glock only the slide doesn't lock back. He had a police agency come in and buy a bunch of them for BUG's for their officers... I have been hearing really good things about these guns!!! I am very intrigued... Can't wait for himt to take it to the range. He bought one for my daughter too.. They got consecutive serial numbers...lol. Take a look at the pics;

I have a Diamondback 380 I bought a couple of months ago, and I love it.
Great gun, super light & slim, usable sights...:man_in_love:

Have you had any luck finding a holster for it?? It is relatively new gun and there doesn't seem to be any holsters out there yet. Glock lovers are going to jump all over this gun if it proves reliable. There is allegedly a video of a guy putting 300 rounds through it and intentionally "limp wristing" to try and make it jam... It never jammed... going to look for the video on youtube.

My wife has one carrys in a ankle rig, we both have put many rds thru the little gun to us no compairison to the kel tech or ruger which are both capable weapons but the felt recoil of the Taurus is noticably less, at this point we prob got 500+ rds thru it with absolutly no gun caused problems, just some shit ammo that did not go bang, primer's were dented but no bang, in fact I may get another for myself

I've wanted a DB380 every since they came out. I've looked around but no one in my area has any. Even at the gun show a couple weeks back nobody had one.

I wear my DB380 in a Bianchi suede Model 6 IWB, fits perfectly, I'm not sure if it's size 07 or 08 or what because I don;t recall holster sizing, but I used to carry my AMT .380 Backup in it. Probably fits lots of other holsters, but I already had this one and so that's what I wear it in. http://www.bianchi-intl.com/product/Prod.php?TxtModelID=6

Other people use
#3 or #4 sized

Uncle Mike's #3 Pocket
found that a Blackhawk Pocket Holster #3 could work too for the DB380.

Two more sugestions,
Although not a .380, why not a Glock 27? Ankle holsters are available for it, it's the same caliber as the primary gun, and it's a Glock.

North American Arms Guardian .380- have heard alot of good things about them.

Thanks.. I myself carry the Glock 27 and Monday thru Friday it is carried in an ankle rig:biggrin: I am allowed to wear jeans on Friday at the office so I switch to an IWB or belly band holster. My son in law wanted something really small that would fit comfortably in his pocket on an IWB when he is working as a plumber. He loves Glock pistols but the G26 and 27 are still just a little too chunky for his particular need. He does carry a Glock 23 in a kholster when he is not working. Personally I don't think you would want to get anything smaller than a Glock 27 for the .40 S&W cartridge... Could you imagine firing a .40 out of a gun the size of a Ruger LCP or Keltec?? It would be like firing a .357 magnum out of a snubby airweight revolver.... Ouch!!

I most often pocket carry my Diamondback 380, always in a pocket holster, usually one that I made out of an old eyeglass protective sleeve. I have also carried it in a cheapo Uncle Mike's #4, & a leather Old west pocket holster from Sportsman's Guide. I add a paper clamp to the SG holster with the DB380 to keep it from seating too deep. Sometimes when I run, I carry it in a belly band / "gun girdle". I haven't IWB'd this gun.

I'm a real baby about carrying big/heavy guns. My "big" carry gun is a Glock 27 (1.18" thick, 27 oz. loaded). "Medium" is a Kahr PM40 (.94" thick, 21 oz. loaded); "small" is the DB380 (.75" thick, 12.5 oz. loaded).

I'm waiting for the new S&W Bodyguard .380. I gotta check it out before I buy anything. If I don't go with the S&W I'll robably get a Kahr.

I have a Glock 23 in .40 cal. I wanted something smaller for concealed carry, and had heard good things about the Kahr. I was thinking either the PM 9 (9mm) or PM 40 (.40 cal.), the choice between the two to be based on recoil. I decided not to get a .380 because I wanted something with a little more stopping power. I tried the PM 40 at a gun shop range and didn't find the recoil to be that big a deal, so I never tried the PM 9, although one of the guys at the range did say the recoil of the PM 40 was noticeably sharper than the PM 9. I ended up getting the PM 40 so I can use the same ammo in the Kahr as the Glock. I have shot 100 rounds through the Kahr at a time on the range and didn't have any issues with recoil. I have a Crossbreed Mini Tuck (IWB) for the Kahr, which I like. I might lean toward the Crossbreed Micro Clip if I was buying the holster again.

I have around 15 ankle holsters of differrent brands/models and I know that some people can, but I can't carry a Glock in one. I was never even comfortable with an AMT .380 Backup on an ankle holster, but a LEO freind I gave one to wore it all over Hawaii that way. I'm just not an ankle guy I guess.

My 27/26 goes IWB strongside every day, my DB380 goes IWB either SOB or crossdraw as a BUG, except Sundays when it's in a pocket holster, or in a Wilderness Safepacker keeping a Taurus PT92 company.

My North American Arms .380 is nice, but heavy for a .380 to carry, and has a much greater felt recoil than the DB380. The CT grips added width and holstering troubles, and I have 9mm pistols that weigh about what that NAA .380 weighs. I keep the NAA at home with the CT grips and 10 round mag in it as a bathroom gun.

Kahr's PM9 is nice, I had a CW40 and got rid of it pretty quickly. I'm anxious for that Microtech Archangel MCP 9mm that weighs 7 ounces empty, for a pocket/BUG since it weighs less than any 380s and is smaller than most.
