The Left Is Convinced Americans Won’t Fight For 2nd Amendment Rights

JANUARY 7, 2013 BY DOUG BOOK

Once cowed at the thought of provoking Second Amendment supporters, leftists will soon attempt to ban “assault weapons” (and much more) as legislation offered by Dianne Feinstein makes its way to the Senate floor. It seems that D.C. liberals have finally become convinced that American gun owners are too cowardly, too lazy or too dependent upon the generosity of Big Brother to fight for their Second Amendment rights.

During the past four years, the gun banning-Left have watched as American buyers broke sales records in the purchase of semi-automatic rifles. Opting for these and other powerful, efficient weapons, it is estimated that some 100 million private citizens are now in possession of over 300 million firearms. And these numbers continue to grow with each passing month.
Yet it’s against this backdrop of America’s unprecedented determination to assert the fundamental permanence of Second Amendment guarantees that Diane Feinstein, Michael Bloomberg, Barack Obama and others will choose to implement gun bans, demand the federal registration of firearms, and even legislate outright confiscation.
Maybe Democrats are confident that fallout from Sandy Hook will provide the floor votes necessary to disarm the American people. But if the Left is willing to risk picking this fight with millions of American gun owners, it must also believe something far more important—that Americans who have spent years arming themselves against the ultimate expression of tyranny by their own government–the overthrow of the Second Amendment– will choose to not fight when the time finally comes.
For decades, the Left have watched Americans simply “lie down” before every imaginable outrage and legislative assault on our liberty. The Constitution has been prostituted by power-hungry, America-hating Marxists in Congress, on the federal bench and in the White House. Elected officials have laughed when asked to provide Constitutional authority for the passage of massively unpopular pieces of legislation. Tax dollars are insolently manipulated to purchase votes, grease the skids of questionable legislation, and add to the wealth of bureaucrats and elected officials. And through it all, Americans are robbed of more and more liberty as we do nothing but “vote ‘em in and cuss ‘em out” every two years.
Liberals have come to depend upon the willingness of Americans to subordinate their desire for liberty to the wishes and whims of the political ruling class. The cowardly are rewarded for relenting while those with the courage to question dictatorial authority and refuse to submit are accused of domestic terrorism. And all who press their own beliefs—or worse, those of the nations’ Founders– are met with ridicule or intimidation in what was at one time a nation of free, thinking individuals.

In short, the Left has come to expect cowardice or disinterested submission from a people trained for decades to accept as given that the good intentions of their elected betters are sufficient to fulfill the requirements of constitutional authority. And it’s a safe bet neither Democrats nor RINO’s will expect anything different from the majority of Americans this time around as Feinstein and Company legislate last rites and a funeral for the Second Amendment.
We know what the Left believe. We’ll soon find out if they are right
Well will you fight? Are you too busy?
Let's show them who we are!

Unfortunately, with the pathetic compromising House, they may be right.
The frog, when placed in the water pan, will stay even as the heat is turned up to a boil - as long as it's done slowly; America's epitaph.

If you remember your history, when the British tried to take guns away from the colonists they didn’t just come out shooting them on the spot, they complied by giving them old nonfunctional guns to appease them while hiding their better guns and then they got together as groups and planned what and how they would strike back at the British as an organized local militia which became the colonial army after a time. When you hear a person saying I’ll shoot anyone who comes to take my guns, isn’t really thinking long term about what will really be required, one person isn’t going to stop a group of people who’ve come to confiscate their guns, it’s going to take an organized group together to defend the 2A, it may take some time but a group together is a whole lot stronger than an individual acting alone. It’s time to think and plan what will need to be done prior to the event actually happening.

If the second amendment is destroyed no part of the Bill of Rights or the Constitution will remain as a deterrent to tyranny. Our government is out of control now. Just try to imagine what our government will be able to do TO the people with no Constitutional restraint. They will probably require us to buy and pay for the chains to bind us in our slavery.

Three words immediately come to mind; Lock and Load.................coined from the M1 Garand, gee juz happen to have one. Every 8 "PING", lock & load again.

I remember the AWB in 94. There are many more gun owners today than there were then. I saw what happened in the 94 elections after the AWB. Judging from that I don't know why the left would think that we won't fight back.

I do not believe most peole will fight back, look t the clips on Youtube of Katrina. They kicked in doors and took guns.
Did you arm yourself and go there and put a stop to it???

It may happen like this.

Article is a joke. Seriously. Gun owners will simply arm themselves to the teeth (oh, already done that) only to comply with a confiscation order by a dictatorial regime? You have got to be kidding me!

Sounds like the makings of a colonial misunderstanding. Where have I heard this before? This misunderstanding will be costly. Oh, wait a minute, our liberties are being nipped-away piece by piece by a dictatorial regime already!

No need for a colonial misunderstanding yet. Maybe later? Yeah, probably later. Nothing to lose then, already lost it all. Go out with a blaze of glory, right after the football game. Yeah, let's do this thing...oh wait, when did our economy collapse and Marshall Law, Police State, and jackbooted thugs take over America?

I'm afraid the left doesn't know their enemy, very well. Perhaps they know the fat, useless couch potato types, which they deem their defeated enemy, but they haven't a clue about true patriots. They will be the ones who speak softly, but carry a big stick. The left will get to know them, intimately, I'm afraid, and there will be very few couch potatoes, among them.

Fit, determined, warrior mindset.

Don't be so sure.

I prefer to think of it as a fringe, mostly left, that are self-apponted gun-grabbers.

What they haven't figured out yet is that statiscally, 50% of gun owners define themselves as either independents or liberals. 90 million gun owners can't all be Republicans.

I'm fairly liberal politically on a lot of things, but on this issue, not so much. If we continue to trash the 2nd Amendment, there won't be much need for any of the other amendments anymore either.

I didn't know it was happening then. If I had been asked to go, I would have weighed my choices and made my decision at that time. If it begins happening just because O'nutjob gives the order... you take a guess!

I guess when the left knocks on or knocks down my door... They will figure out rather quickly whether I am fighting back or not...

After all these years on gun forums, I have come to the conclusion that most gun owners only have the shakiest understanding of the laws under which they carry, little understanding about how bills become law, and couldn't tell you the name of their representative if their life depended on it. Am I cynical? You bet.

What people don't understand is that the Second Ammendment protects the rest of the Ammendments.....as the Founders designed.....it's the muscle that they put in to protect the Constitution

IDk... maybe they're right. Maybe they're not... we won't know for sure until the gov't actually announces all firearms are hereby illegal, then... you may witness all hell breaking loose. Until that day, the patriots among us may be waiting, planning and preparing for the opportune moment to return America to what she should be.

I dont think that there will be a war, they will ban clips, mags, and a few other things, most will say they can live with that.then in a year or two grab a little more ,most will say they can live with that, then in a year or two they will grab some more!the gov.knows not to take to much at a time and not upset tomany at a time, thats how they do it all the time! PROBLEM WITH WE THE THE PEOPLE IS THAT WE FORGET!

Can you throw the bait a bit further? WHAT really brings you to this forum? (After all these years)

When my wife and I loaded up several Red Cross/Salvation Army/local business and charity coalition trucks, and then loaded ourselves on the bus to go down there, it wasn't to go "put a stop" to gun confiscations, because we knew nothing of that as we were preparing to go down there while the storm was still in the area. However, as always, both my wife and I were armed, myself a bit heavier than usual just because of the extenuating circumstances.

As it happened, our convoy was made aware of aid being turned back at the MS/LA state line, so we never made it to NOLA, though that was our intended destination when we left. We went to the Biloxi, MS area instead, which was also devastated. For whatever combination of reasons, which I have my own take on, there was no visible trouble between the state and local governments and the displaced in need of help. The biggest ruckus we saw was when Bush landed about a mile from the area we were working in, and they actually pushed people who were waiting in line to apply for disaster relief well back of where the temporary insurance or FEMA tents (not sure who exactly was running it) were set up, further delaying their application process. There were some PO'ed people who were yelling etc., but no fights or heavy-handed police actions.

We were down there for two weeks, and never knew a thing about the gun confiscations, all the stuff that went on at the Super Dome, heck, as smoothly as things were going where we were, we weren't even aware of the massive loss of life in NOLA. The only thing we had was local radio. Cell service was out, as was over-the-air TV, and our tent-city didn't have cable piped in or anything. Whatever, after getting home and catching up on all the news we missed from NOLA, since then, I've thought a lot about what I would've done had anyone tried to disarm me. Chances are I would've made a lot of noise, quoted the 2nd Amendment and thrown in a quote or three from Madison, Jefferson and maybe Mason or Samuel Adams, but in the end, I likely would've complied, and I base that on this:

1) I would not have been in my own home legally defending my rights by telling them to get off my property before they would force me to defend it.

2) I wouldn't have even been in my own state where I could cite chapter and verse of the laws they were violating. While I know which states Alabama has reciprocity agreements with, I don't know all those states' laws anywhere near as well as my home state.

3) I would've been surprised by the demand to disarm. I would not have had any warning. We were incommunicado with everyone but the higher-ups having satellite phones to communicate with their parent organizations. We were just worker-bees. I can't envision how the demand would've been made with any notice, and lacking the time to think about one's response was probably the biggest factor in all those folks in NOLA who complied, where, like now, if we know it even *might* be coming, we can firm up our defenses or decide to comply so no one gets hurt on either side. To each his own, but knowing it might be coming to my front door in one form or another, I'm making plans on how best to go about not complying. But they had the element of surprise in NOLA, so I'm not sure it's fair to hold them up as weak or unpatriotic or uninformed or whatever negative trait might be attributed to them for having turned their guns over to people making illegal demands of them.

Being a nationwide consideration this time, and the response being considered is not to a natural disaster, but to a maniac whose actions are seemingly going to result in the whole of the gun-owning public being punished for it, I don't think it's going to be anywhere near as easy as it was in NOLA. I sure won't make it easy for them.
